1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the command of God our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, who is our hope,
1:2 To Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
1:3 I urged you to remain in Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, so that you might warn certain people not to teach a different doctrine,
1:4 Nor to pay attention to myths and endless genealogies, which foster irrelevant conjectures rather than godly edifying which is in faith.
1:5 For the purpose of all the commandments is love out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of sincere faith,
1:6 From which some have missed the mark and turned aside to vain and irrelevant doctrines,
1:7 Desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say, nor the things that they assert.
1:8 But we know that the law is good, if a man uses it lawfully.
1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and mothers, for manslayers,
1:10 For the sexually immoral, for those who defile themselves with men [homosexuals], for extortioners, for liars, for perjurers, and any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine,
1:11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
1:12 I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me for this, because he counted me faithful, appointing me to this ministry.
1:13 Although before I was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious; but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
1:14 And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, along with faith and love, which are in Christ Jesus.
1:15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst.
1:16 However for this reason I obtained mercy, so that in me, the worst, Jesus Christ might show the greatness of his longsuffering and patience, as an example to those who would believe on him for life everlasting.
1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal and invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
1:18 Timothy, my son, I entrust this admonition to you, in accordance with the previous prophecies about you; so that being aided by them, you might wage a good warfare,
1:19 Holding a firm faith with a good conscience, which some have rejected, making shipwreck of their faith.
1:20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme._________________________________________
