|1 Thessalonians 3:3-5 |
3 So that no man should be disturbed by my afflictions; for yourselves know that we are appointed to this.1
4 For truly, when we were with you, we told you that we would suffer tribulation; even as it has now happened, as you know.
5 For this reason, when I could no longer endure it, I sent that I might know of your faith, lest by some means the tempter might have tempted you, and our labor would be in vain.
1 no man should be disturbed by my afflictions; for yourselves know that we are appointed to this. We must suffer with supernatural afflictions in order to be done with sin. This is part of the inward cross of self-denial, and the Lord will allow you to be afflicted when he has built up your faith sufficently to not fall away under the stress and depression that often results. Therefore, since Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same mind because he who has suffered in the flesh is finished with sin, 1 Pet 4:1.
