Malachi 4:1-2,3:2-3

Display Chapter and Footnotes

1 "For behold, the day comes that shall burn like an oven, and all the proud, yes, and all who do wickedly, will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.

2 But to you who fear my name, the Sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in his wings, and you shall go forth and leap and skip like calves released from the stall.

 2 But who can endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap;

3 And he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi [priests], and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness.

2 Peter 3:10-12

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.2 [On the day of the Lord, the appearance of Jesus, the world passes away and disappears, along with its lusts and desires, 1 John 2:7, you remain on the earth, but your sight and consciousness is in heaven, as you are translated into the Kingdom Heaven; those upon whom the ends of the world have come. 1 Cor 10:11]

11 Since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons should you be in all holy conduct and godliness,

12 While waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of Christ,3 in which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? [Notice! If you can hasten the coming of the day of God, then obviously it is a personal experience. Waiting for God hastens the day of Christ, when Jesus appears in a purified heart, when you are translated out of the physical dimension to the Kingdom of Heaven; the world passes away and disappears. 1 John 2:7. To wait on God is to listen, watch, and obey.]

11 You shall conceive chaff, you shall bring forth stubble; my breath, as fire, shall devour you. [This applies to those who die still sinning, those who have not been purified while alive on the earth. For those truly seeking, his fire is the baptism of fire.]

12 And the people shall be as the burnings of lime; they shall be burned up like thorns in the fire. [Therefore as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root shall be like rottenness, and their blossom shall go up like dust because they have cast away the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. Isa 5:24]

13 Hear what I have done, you who are far off and; you who are near, acknowledge my might."

14 The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness has surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? [For those who die still sinning: "Wail for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as destruction from the Almighty," Isa 13:6; "For behold, the day comes that shall burn like an oven, and all the proud, yes, and all who do wickedly, will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch." Mal 4:1. "Behold, they shall be as stubble, the fire shall burn them; they shall not even deliver themselves from the power of the flame; here is no coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before. Isa 47:14]

15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, he who despises the gain of oppression, who keeps his hands from taking bribes, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil; [These are those who die on the inward cross of self-denial, purified while alive on the earth.]

16 He will dwell on high; his place of defense will be the fortress of rocks; bread will be given him; his waters will be sure.

31 So likewise, when you see these things happen, know that the kingdom of God is near.

34 But take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts become weighted down with dissipation and drunkenness and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you unexpectedly.

35 For it will come on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. [The second coming and the day of the Lord are one in the same personal experience, which occurs for all men in every generation. For those who are crucified to spiritually die on the inward cross of self-denial, the second coming occurs as the Lord appears to burn by baptism of fire the remaining sin in them. Their body dies in this baptism of death, but the believer is raised (resurrected) with Christ and translated into the kingdom of God. Though raised with Christ to live in the heavens, they still walk the earth as a new creature. For those who physically die without having been purified on the inward cross and who are still slaves to sin, the appearance of the Lord when they physically die is a terror for they will suddenly see how hopelessly evil they are.]

Amos 5:18

18 Woe to you who desire the day of the LORD! For what good is it to you? The day of the LORD is darkness and not light. [Woe to you Christians who think grace excuses your continued sinning for the Day of the Lord will be a terror to you. "For behold, the day comes that shall burn like an oven, and all the proud, yes, and all who do wickedly, will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the LORD of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch." Malachi 4:1]

1 Corinthians 3:13

13 That man's work will be exposed. For the day [of the Lord] will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will try and test every man's work, of what sort it is.2 [For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision, nor uncircumcision benefits anything; but faith, which is energized and demonstrated by works [thus operating] through love. Gal 5:6. Faith must be demonstrated by works of love, which is obedience to the promptings of the Spirit of God's direction; such is the love of God. But he who practices truth comes to the light, so that his deeds may be shown to have been produced (effected, formed, prompted, energized) through God." John 3:21; such works are the only works that survive passing through the fire, which every man must go through.]

Acts 2:20
