|1 Chronicles 14 |
Now Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with timber of cedars along with masons and carpenters to build him an house.
David perceived that the LORD had confirmed him king over Israel; his kingdom was lifted up on high because of his people Israel.
David took more wives at Jerusalem, and David fathered more sons and daughters.
Now these are the names of his children which he had in Jerusalem are: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
Ibhar, Elishua, Elpalet,
Nogah, Nepheg, aphia,
Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphalet.
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, all the Philistines went up to war with David. David heard of it, and went out against them.
The Philistines came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
David inquired of God, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will you deliver them into my hand?" And the LORD said to him, "Go up for I will deliver them into your hand."
So they came up to Baalperazim, and David defeated them there. Then David said, "The LORD has broken forth upon my enemies before me, as the breach of waters [comes from a broken dike or dam]." Therefore they called the name of that place Baalperazim.
The Philistines had abandoned their idols, so David commanded his men to burn them.
The Philistines came up yet again and assembled themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, "You shall not attack them; instead go around to behind them, and approach them over by the mulberry trees.
Let it be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall go quickly for then the LORD will go out ahead of you to destroy the host of the Philistines."
David did as the LORD had commanded him; and destroyed the Philistines from Geba until you come to Gazer.
The fame of David went out into all lands; and the LORD brought the fear of him upon all nations.
