|1 Timothy 5:20|
20 Rebuke those who continue in sin before everyone, so that others may fear also.2 [Notice! In the early church sin was not tolerated; those sinning were to be publicly exposed and rebuked, so that others in the assembly would be fearful of sinning themselves and also suffering a public rebuke. Does this even faintly resemble today's so-called Christianity? NO, because today's Christianity has trampled on grace, turning it into a license for immorality, instead of the teaching process of how to stop sinning and live a godly life. And so, there is no fear of God within Christendom; yet the fear of God is the absolute starting point of religion; without fear to motivate you to turn from evil, you are hopelessly lost.]
|Acts 5:1-11 |
1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
2 And kept back part of the price. His wife also had knowledge of this, and they brought only a part and laid it at the apostles' feet.
3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the price of the land?
4 While it remained unsold, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power [to withhold any part of the money you chose]? Why have you conceived this lie in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God."
5 Now when Ananias heard these words, he fell down and died; and a great fear came on all those who heard these things.1
6 And the young men arose, wrapped up the body, carried him out, and buried him.
7 Then about three hours afterwards, his wife, not knowing what had occurred, came in.
8 And Peter asked her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?' And she said, "Yes, for so much."
9 Then Peter said to her, "How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of those whom have buried your husband are at the door, and they shall also carry you out."
10 Then she fell down immediately at his feet and died; and the young men came in, found her dead, carried her out, and buried her next to her husband.
11 And a great fear came upon all the church and on as many as heard of these things.
