Amos 1

Next Chapter

 These are the words of Amos, who was among the herdsmen of Tekoa, which words he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah, king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam, the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

 He said: "The LORD will roar from Zion and utter his voice from Jerusalem; then the pastures of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither."

 Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Damascus and for four, I will not turn away their punishment because they have threshed Gilead with threshing instruments of iron.

 So I will send a fire upon the house of Hazael that willl devour the fortresses of Benhadad.

 I will break the gate of Damascus and cut off the inhabitants from the plain of Aven, along with him who holds the scepter from the house of Beth Eden; and the people of Syria shall go into captivity to Kir," says the LORD.

 Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Gaza and for four, I will not turn away their punishment because they carried away captive the whole population to deliver them up to Edom.

 So I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza, which shall devour its fortresses.

 I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod along with him who holds the scepter from Ashkelon, and I will turn my hand against Ekron; and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish," says the Lord GOD.

 Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Tyre and for four, I will not turn away their punishment because they delivered up the whole population to Edom, and because they did not remember the brotherly covenant.

 So I will send a fire on the wall of Tyre, which shall devour its fortresses."

 Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Edom and for four, I will not turn away his punishment because he pursued his brother with the sword, casting off all pity, and his anger tore perpetually as he kept his wrath forever.

 So I will send a fire upon Teman, which shall devour the fortresses of Bozrah."

 Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of the children of Ammon and for four, I will not turn away their punishment because they have ripped up the pregnant women of Gilead, so they might enlarge their border.

 So I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah and it shall devour its fortresses, amid shouting in the day of battle with a tempest in the day of the whirlwind;

 And their king shall go into captivity, he and his princes together," says the LORD.
