Deuteronomy 23

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

 [Moses speaking]. "He who is wounded in the testicles, or has has been made a eunuch, shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

 A bastard shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to his tenth generation his descendants shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD.

 An Ammonite or Moabite shall not enter into the congregation of the LORD; even to their tenth generation his descendants shall they not enter into the congregation of the LORD forever;

 Because they did not meet you with bread and with water in the way, when you came forth out of Egypt; and because they hired Balaam, the son of Beor of Pethor of Mesopotamia, against you to curse you.

 Nevertheless the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam; but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing to you, because the LORD your God loved you.

 You will not seek their [the Ammonite's or Moabite's] peace nor their prosperity all your days, forever.

 You will not abhor an Edomite for he is your brother [descendants of Esau]; you will not abhor an Egyptian because you were a stranger in his land.

 The children that are born of them [Edomites] shall enter into the congregation of the LORD in their third generation.

 When the host [the army of the children of Israel] goes forth against your enemies, then keep yourselves from every wicked thing.

 If there is among you any man who is not clean because of nocturnal emission, then shall he go abroad out of the camp, he shall not come within the camp.

 But it shall be, when evening comes, he shall wash himself with water; and when the sun is down, he shall come into the camp again.

 You will have a place also without the camp, where you will go to relieve yourself;

 And you will have a shovel among your weapons; and when you have eased yourself abroad, you will dig there, and cover what had come from you.

 For the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you, and to give up your enemies before you; therefore your camp shall be holy, so that he sees no unclean thing in you, and not turn away from you.

 You will not deliver to his master the servant who has escaped from his master to you.

 He shall dwell with you, even among you, in that place which he shall choose in one of your gates, where it likes him best; you will not oppress him.

 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite [homosexual] of the sons of Israel.

 You will not bring the hire of a whore, or the price of a sodomite, into the house of the LORD your God for any vow for both of these are abomination to the LORD your God.

 You will not lend with interest to your brother; interest of money, of food, or of anything that is lent with interest.

 You may lend upon interest to a stranger, but to your brother you will not lend with interest; so that the LORD your God may bless you in all that you set your hand to in the land where you go to possess it.

 When you make a vow to the LORD your God, you will not be slow to perform it, for the LORD your God will surely require it of you; and it would be a sin in you.

 But if you refrain from vowing, it shall be not sin in you.

 What has gone out of your lips you will keep and perform; even a voluntary offering that you have vowed to the LORD your God, which you have promised with your mouth.

 When you come into your neighbor's vineyard, then you may eat your fill of grapes at your own pleasure; but you will not put any in your vessel.

 When you come into the standing grain of your neighbor, then you may pluck the grain with your hand; but you will not move a sickle to your neighbor's standing grain.
