|Exodus 15 |
Then Moses and the children of Israel sang this song to the LORD: "I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.
The LORD is my strength and song, and he has become my salvation; he is my God, and I will praise him; my father's God, and I will exalt him.
The LORD is a man of war; the LORD is his name.
Pharaoh's chariots and his host he has cast into the sea; his chosen captains are drowned in the Red Sea.
The deep waters have covered them; they sank into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O LORD, is glorious in power; your right hand, O LORD, has shattered the enemy.
And in the greatness of your majesty you have overthrown those who rise up against you; you send forth your fury, which consumes them like stubble.
With the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up, the floods stood upright like a heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea.
The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my desire shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'
But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them; they sank as lead in the mighty waters.
Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you — glorious in holiness, awesome in splendor, doing wonders?
You stretched out your right hand, and the earth swallowed them.
In your mercy and loving kindness you have led forth the people that you have redeemed; you have guided them in your strength to your holy habitation.
The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will take hold of the inhabitants of Palestine.
Then the chiefs of Edom will be amazed; trembling will take hold of the mighty men of Moab; all the inhabitants of Canaan will melt away.
Fear and dread will fall upon them; by the greatness of your arm they will be as still as stone; until your people pass over, O LORD, until the people whom you have purchased, pass over.
You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which you have made for you to dwell in, the Sanctuary, O LORD, which your hands have established.
The LORD shall reign forever and ever."
Now when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought the waters of the sea back upon them, but the children of Israel walked through the midst of the sea on dry land.
Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dances.
And Miriam sang to them: "Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea!"
So Moses led Israel away from the Red sea and they went out into the wilderness of Shur. They went three days in the wilderness without finding water.
And when they came to Marah, they could not drink the waters of Marah for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah [bitter].
So the people murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"
And he cried to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a tree, which he threw into into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There the Lord made a decree and an ordinance for them, and there he tested them,
Saying, "If you will diligently listen to the voice of the LORD your God and will do what is right in his sight, and will pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will put none of the diseases upon you, which I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the LORD who heals you."
Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there by the waters.
