Exodus 6

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh. Because of my strong hand, he will let them go, and because of my strong hand, he will drive them out of his land."

And God spoke to Moses, and said to him, "I am the LORD.

I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob by the name of God Almighty, but I was not known to them by my name the LORD [JEHOVAH].

I established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers.

And I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.

Therefore say to the children of Israel, 'I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and will rid you of their bondage, and I will rescue you with an outstretched arm, and with great judgments.

And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God; and you shall know that I, the LORD your God, am he who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

And I will bring you into the land, which I swore with an uplifted hand to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it to you for a heritage. I am the LORD.'"

So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses because of their anguish of spirit and their cruel bondage.

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

"Go in, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the children of Israel go out of his land."

But Moses spoke to the LORD, saying, "Behold, the children of Israel have not listened to me; why then shall Pharaoh heed me, who am of faltering lips?"

And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, and gave them a command for the children of Israel and for Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

Now these are the heads of their fathers' households. The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel: Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; these are the families of Reuben.

The sons of Simeon: Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman; these are the families of Simeon.

These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their births: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari; and the years of Levi were a hundred and thirty seven years.

The sons of Gershon: Libni, and Shimi, according to their families.

The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel; and the years of Kohath were a hundred and thirty three years.

The sons of Merari: Mahali and Mushi; these are the families of Levi according to their births.

And Amram took Jochebed his father's sister as a wife, and she bore him Aaron and Moses; and the years of Amram were a hundred and thirty seven years.

The sons of Izhar: Korah, Nepheg, and Zichri.

The sons of Uzziel: Mishael, Elzaphan, and Zithri.

And Aaron took Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Naashon, to be his wife; and she bore him Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

The sons of Korah: Assir, Elkanah, and Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korhites.

And Eleazar, Aaron's son, took one of the daughters of Putiel as a wife; and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.

These are the same Aaron and Moses to whom the LORD said, "Bring out the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt according to their hosts."

These are the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt about bringing the children of Israel out of Egypt; these are the same Moses and Aaron.

And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt,

That the LORD said to Moses, "I am the LORD. Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you."

And Moses said to the LORD, "Behold, I am of faltering lips; how then shall Pharaoh heed me?"
