|Ezekiel 14 |
1 Then certain of the elders of Israel came to me, and sat before me.
2 And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
3 "Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumbling block of their iniquity before their face; should I let myself be inquired of by them at all?
4 Therefore speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, Every man of the house of Israel who sets up his idols in his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, and yet comes to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him according to the multitude of his idols,
5 So that I may lay hold of the house of Israel in their own heart, who are all estranged from me through their idols.'
6 Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: repent, and turn from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.
7 For anyone of the house of Israel or of the stranger who sojourns in Israel who separates himself from me, and sets up his idols in his heart and puts the stumbling block of his iniquity before his face, yet comes to a prophet to inquire of me, I the LORD will answer him myself.
8 And I will set my face against that man and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and you shall know that I am the LORD.
9 And if the prophet [answers him against my order] and gives the answer he desires when he has spoken a thing, I the LORD will see that the prophet does not have truth [by withholding it]1, and I will stretch out my hand against him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.
10 And they shall bear the same punishment for their iniquity; the punishment of the prophet shall be the same as the punishment of the one who consults him,
11 So that the house of Israel may no more go astray from me, neither be defiled any more with all their transgressions, but that they may be my people and I may be their God, says the Lord GOD.'"
12 The word of the LORD came again to me, saying,
13 "Son of man, when the land sins against me by trespassing grievously, then I will stretch out my hand against it and will break the staff of its bread and send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it.
14 Even though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only their own souls by their righteousness, says the Lord GOD.
15 If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land and they spoil it, and it is desolate so that no man may pass through because of the beasts;
16 Though these three men were in it, as I live," says the Lord GOD, "they would deliver neither sons nor daughters; only they themselves would be delivered, but the land would be desolate.
17 Or if I bring a sword against that land, and say, 'Sword, go through the land,' so that I cut off man and beast from it,
18 Though these three men were in it, as I live," says the Lord GOD, "they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but only they themselves would be delivered.
19 Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off man and beast from it,
20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live," says the Lord GOD, "they would deliver neither son nor daughter; they would only deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
21 For thus says the Lord GOD, 'How much worse shall it be when I send my four severe judgments upon Jerusalem: the sword, the famine, the wild beast, and the pestilence, to cut off man and beast from it?
22 Yet, behold, a remnant shall be left that will be brought out of it, both sons and daughters; behold, they shall come forth to you, and when you see their [wicked] ways and actions, you shall be consoled concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even all that I have brought upon it.
23 You will be consoled when you see their ways and their actions, for you shall know that I have not done all that I have done without cause, says the Lord GOD.'"

1 Many bibles translate this to "I will seee that the prophet is decieved." But there is a great difference between withholding the truth and creating a lie. From the Word of the Lord within: "I have never lied to anyone." If the supposed prophet is without the Spirit of God, then anything he says is not true. Does that mean God lied? No, that means the prophet lied. God made sure that the false prophet did not have his Spirit, but God did not make the false prophet lie.
