|Ezekiel 21 |
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
"Son of man, set your face toward Jerusalem, and speak your word against the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel,
And say to the land of Israel, 'Thus says the LORD: Behold, I am against you and will draw forth my sword out of its sheath and will cut off both the righteous and the wicked from you.
Because I will cut off from you both the righteous and the wicked, therefore my sword shall go forth out of its sheath against all flesh from the south to the north,
So that all flesh may know that I the LORD have drawn forth my sword out of its sheath; it shall not return any more.'
Sigh therefore, son of man, with a breaking heart and with bitterness, sigh before their eyes.
And it shall be, when they say to you, 'Why do you sigh?' That you shall answer, 'Because of the news; when it comes every heart will melt and all hands will be feeble, and every spirit will faint and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes and shall be brought to pass,'" says the Lord GOD.
Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
"Son of man, prophesy and say, 'Thus says the LORD: say, A sword, a sword is sharpened and polished;
It is sharpened to make a slaughter, it is polished that it may flash like lightning! Should we then make mirth? The scepter of my son Judah holds every tree [nation] in contempt.
And the Lord has given the sword to be polished so that it may be handled; this sword is sharpened and it is polished to give it into the hand of the slayer.'
Cry and wail, son of man, for it will be against my people; it will be against all the princes of Israel; terrors because of the sword will be upon my people. Therefore strike your thigh.
Because the sword is tested, and what if even the scepter that has contempt shall be no more?" says the Lord GOD.
"You therefore, son of man, prophesy and clap your hands together and let the sword do double and triple damage, the sword of the slain; it is the sword of the great slaughter which enters into their private chambers.
I have set the point of the sword against all their gates, that their heart may faint and many may stumble. Ah! It is made to flash like lightning; it is grasped for the slaughter.
O sword, cut one way or another, either on the right hand or on the left, wherever your face is set.
I will also clap my hands together, and I will cause my fury to rest. I the LORD have said it."
The word of the LORD came to me again, saying,
"Also, son of man, mark out two roads by which the sword of the king of Babylon may come; both of the two shall come out of one land. And make a signpost and put it at the head of the road to the city.
Mark out a road for the sword to come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and another to Judah in fortified Jerusalem.
For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the road, at the fork of the two roads, to use divination. He shakes his arrows bright, he consults with idols, he looks at the liver.
At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem: to set up battering rams, to open the mouth to command the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to set up battering rams against the gates, to build a mound and siege works.
And it will seem to them like a false divination in the sight of those who have sworn oaths to him. But he will remind them of their iniquity, so that they may be taken."
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Because you have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered so that in all your doings your sins appear; because, I say, you have come to remembrance, you shall be taken with the hand of the enemy.
And you, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day of punishment will come, whose iniquity shall have an end,
Thus says the Lord GOD: Remove the diadem, and take off the crown; things shall not be the same; exalt him who is low, and humble him who is high.
I will overturn, overturn, overturn it; and it shall be no more until He comes whose right it is; and I will give it to Him.
And you, son of man, prophesy and say, 'Thus says the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach and say: The sword, the sword is drawn for the slaughter; it is polished to consume and to flash like lightning,
While they see false visions for you and divine a lie for you to place on the necks of wicked who are slain, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have a final punishment.
Return the sword into its sheath. I will judge you in the place where you were created, in the land of your nativity.
And I will pour out my indignation upon you; I will blow against you with the fire of my wrath and deliver you into the hand of brutish men, skilful to destroy.
You shall be fuel for the fire; your blood shall be in the midst of the land; you shall be remembered no more, for I the LORD have spoken it.'"
