Ezekiel 4

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

"You, son of man, take a tile and lay it before you, and draw upon it the city of Jerusalem.

Then lay siege against it, and build a fort against it, and heap up a mount against it; set the camp also against it, and set battering rams against it round about.

Moreover take an iron pan, and place it for a wall of iron between you and the city; and turn your face against it, and it shall be besieged, and you shall lay siege against it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.

Lie also on your left side, and lay the iniquity of the house of Israel upon it. According to the number of the days that you lie upon it you shall bear their iniquity.

For I have laid upon you the years of their iniquity, according to the number of the days, three hundred and ninety days; so you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.

And when you have completed them, lie again on your right side, and you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Judah forty days; I have appointed you a day for each year.

Therefore you shall set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem and your arm shall be uncovered, and you shall prophesy against it.

And, behold, I will tie ropes on you, and you will not turn from one side to another, until you have ended the days of your siege.

Also take wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentils, and millet, and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make bread of them. According to the number of the days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days you shall eat it.

And your food which you eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day, and you shall eat it at a set time.

You shall also drink water by measure, about one quart, and you shall drink it at a set time.

And you shall eat it as a barley cake, and you shall bake it with dung that comes out of man, in their sight."

And the LORD said, "Even thus shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, where I will drive them."

Then I said, "Ah Lord GOD! Behold, my soul has not been defiled; for from my youth up even until now I have not eaten of that which dies of itself, or is torn in pieces; nor did abominable flesh come into my mouth."

Then he said to me, "Lo, I will give you cow's dung instead of man's dung, and you shall prepare your bread over it."

Moreover he said to me, "Son of man, behold, I will break the staff of bread in Jerusalem; and they shall eat bread by weight, and with care; and they shall drink water by measure, and with dread,

So that they may lack bread and water, and be appalled with one another, and waste away because of their iniquity."
