|Ezra 1 |
Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of the LORD spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and put it also in writing, saying,
"Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, 'The LORD God of heaven has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a temple at Jerusalem, which is in Judah.
Whoever of all his people among you, may his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem in Judah and rebuild the temple of the LORD God of Israel, who is in Jerusalem; He is God.
And anyplace where any survivor sojourns, let the men of that place help him with silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with freewill offerings for the temple of God that is in Jerusalem.'"
Then the heads of the families of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and Levites, with all those whose spirit God had moved, arose to go up to rebuild the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem.
And all those who were around them assisted them with vessels of silver, with gold, goods, livestock, and with precious things, besides all that was willingly and freely offered.
Cyrus the king also brought out the vessels of the temple of the LORD, which Nebuchadnezzar had taken from Jerusalem and put in the house of his gods.
Cyrus king of Persia brought them out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.
And this is the number of them: thirty basins of gold; a thousand basins of silver; twenty nine dishes,
Thirty gold bowls; four hundred and ten silver bowls of a similar kind; and a thousand other vessels.
All the articles of gold and silver were five thousand four hundred. Sheshbazzar brought all these along with the exiles who went up from Babylon to Jerusalem.
