Galatians 6

Previous Chapter

 1 Brothers, if a man is overtaken in a sin, you who are to spiritually restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; watching yourselves, lest you also become tempted.

 2 Bear with one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

 3 For if a man thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

 4 But let every man examine his own work, and then he can rejoice in himself, and not in comparison to another.

 5 For every man will bear his own burden.

 6  Let him who is taught in the word share with him who teaches in all good things [as needed].1

 7 Do not be deceived; God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

 8 For he who sows to his own flesh will reap destruction from the flesh; but he who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit.

 9 And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we will reap, if we do not faint.

 10 Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

 11 You see how large a letter I have written to you with my own hand.

 12 Those who want to make a good impression in the flesh constrain you to be circumcised; but only for fear that they might suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.

 13 For even those who are circumcised do not keep the [whole] law; but want to have you circumcised so that they may boast about your flesh.

 14 But God forbid that I should boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. [How could the world be crucified to Paul? It is the world that is within every man that Paul writes of being crucified, which world within George Fox wrote a detailed explanation, and which is the world in the Book of Revelation that is purged of Babylon and sin — or crucified. From the Word of the Lord within: "The world in every man is destroyed by the Lord. I  am He who destroys the world."]

 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision benefits anything, but only a new creature.2

 16 As many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be on them, and on the Israel of God.3

 17 From this time forward let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks [from persecutions] of the Lord Jesus.

 18 Brothers, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen.

1 Let him who is taught in the word share with him who teaches in all good things [as needed]. To be taught in the word, is to be taught by someone who speaks words supplied by the Spirit of God, not to be taught by someone reading the Bible. As Paul said: "The word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart [so you may do it];" that is, the word of faith, which we preach. So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God [from within your heart]. Jesus is the Word of God, not the Bible. To be taught in the word is to be taught by someone who speaks the Word of God. To feed the sheep is to speak words and teachings heard from the Spirit of God. The Spirit gives life, so words supplied by the Spirit of God to a true teacher or preacher, increase the life of God in their listeners. Reading from the dead letter of the Bible, does not give life to the listeners. The letter kills, the spirit gives life. 2 Cor 2:6; The words that I speak to you are spirit, and the are life. John 6:63. As Paul said: Which things also we speak, not in the words, which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit instructs; explaining spiritual truths with spiritual words. 1 Cor 2:13. As Peter said: If any man speaks, let him speak with God's words [oracles]; 1 Pet 4:11.

The preachers today do not feed the sheep. They are incapable of feeding the sheep because they have not been purified, restored to the spiritual image of God, specifically authorized, and perfected by the Lord; they are self-appointed. They don't have words supplied by the Holy Spirit. They have not been appointed by the Holy Spirit. James echoes the same message: My brothers, not many of you should be teachers, knowing that we who teach will be judged by a stricter judgment; for we all err in many things; and if any man does not err in his words, he is a perfect man. James 3:1-2. James is saying, until a preacher is perfected, what he teaches will have errors; and errors that mislead their listeners will be strictly judged.

The preachers today, feed themselves, by taking money from the flock. Preaching for a salary is the error of Balaam, which is spiritual adultery, loving wages and profit — both Peter and Jude had some very grave things to say about those who solicit donations or preach for a salary. Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children — for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness. Peter, Paul, and Jesus all spoke strongly against preachers who took money from the flock, feeding themselves at the expense of the sheep.

Yet, the Lord will be sure that his true ministers receive their living from the gospel and are provided with their material needs, but not by asking for money and/or asking for tithes, which died with the Levitical priesthood along with their ordinances. The grateful recipients of words of Truth spoken from the Spirit of God, would supply the speaker's needs by unsolicited gifts. Compared to the spiritual benefits, which the people received from the true ministers of Christ, it was a small matter if they reaped carnal things as free gifts. Paul, who worked as tentmaker for his income, states he would not take any money, even unsolicited gifts, because he 'would put up with anything, rather than hinder the gospel.' He did later accept two unsolicited gifts, for which he was thankful and said he had been in great need.

As has been explained by George Fox, when a true minister of the word of faith brings someone the "living words of truth spoken from the Spirit of God;" the person who receives them is so overjoyed and grateful, their possessions are no longer important to them; they know they are part of the whole Body of Christ, and they are eager to supply, unsolicited gifts, to meet any need they see of the "man speaking the words of God from the Spirit of God," including their least valued treasures — mammon — but the true man of God would never ask. If the minister had needs, he could gratefully receive the totally unsolicited gift of love, included but not limited to money; the true reward is to see Christ manifested in his followers and to love that person as though he is Christ. The true reward is to have their spirits knit together in love. The true reward is LOVE. None of the early Quaker ministers ever charged or took a salary; some were ministers for 50 years — supported by either working for a living or unsolicited gifts of love.

Jesus commanded his disciples: freely you have received, freely give. Matt 10:8
Jesus said:
Remain in the same house, eating and drinking those things which they give you; for the laborer is worthy of his hire. Luke 10:7-8. So here Jesus says, eat and drink such things as they give, because a worker worthy is hire. This is the wages that Christ allows, unsolicited gifts, which could include a gift of money of course.

But if someone asks for a gift or contribution, and then someone gives, it is not a gift; a gift is unsolicited. Neither is taking up a collection or taking a salary receiving a gift. To be a gift, it has to be totally unsolicited.

2 This new creature referred to is the result of Christ joining with the crucified and purified believer, to be resurrected in him. This is not to be imagined, or to be presumed, but experienced:

Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Cor 5:17.
And have [purposed to] put on the new man, who is renewed in knowledge after the image of him who created him. Col 3:10
And put on the newly created nature [of Christ], which is created in God's image of true righteousness and holiness. Eph 4:24
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 1 Cor 15:53

From the Word of the Lord within: "Put on the new creature. If anyone is standing with a new heart, he is a new creature. Put on the new life. The new life is as radically different as a man who has lived underground his whole life, suddenly coming above ground to see the sun, the sky, the plants, the animals, the wind, the stars."

3 As many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be on them, and on the Israel of God. The Israel of God is the new creature. Here is the rule of a true Christian; the scriptures are not the rule. The rule is Christ, in the new creature. George Fox addresses this in his writing on Concerning the Rule:

Now mark, you professors of the letters, that say, ‘the scripture is your rule;’ was not circumcision of the letter of the scripture? And yet the apostle said, ‘it avails nothing, but a new creature; and what the apostle rejoiced in, was the cross of Christ, in which he was crucified to the world, and the world to him. Is not the cross of Christ the power of God? Are not as many as walk according to this rule, and rejoice in it, (namely), the cross of Christ, and the new creature? I say, as many as walk according to this rule, peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. Gal 6:14-16. For the apostle said, ‘the cross of Christ is the power of God;’ so that the rule of the new creature in Christ he sets forth to be the rule. [Christ in the new creature is the rule]. You who have the form of godliness, and deny the power thereof, and the having the spirit that gave it forth now in your days, and call it your rule, and yet walk quite contrary to it, are to be turned away from; yet not turn away from the scriptures, but from you, who walk contrary to them, and the spirit that gave them forth.

And the apostle said in Phil 3:16, ‘Nevertheless, to where we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing;' for he had told them with weeping of such as were enemies to the cross of Christ, whose end is damnation, whose God is their belly, and glory in their shame, who mind earthly things.

Now were not they enemies to the rule then, which was the cross of Christ, the power of God? And what was this rule they were to walk by? Was it not what God had distributed to them, the spirit of God? For these, whose belly was their God, and gloried in their shame, and minded earthly things, whose end was damnation; these were a kind of christians, which it is to be feared there are too many such now, who were enemies to the cross of Christ, which is the power of God, who were to be turned away from. Was not the grace of God, which God said should be sufficient for Paul, and his strength made perfect in his weakness; was not this grace and strength a sufficient rule for Paul?

And does not the apostle say, ‘let the peace of God [Christ] rule in your hearts by faith, who shall rule all nations with a rod of iron?’ So is not he a sufficient rule in the heart by faith, and a sufficient rule to rule all nations, Rev 12:5, yes, and sufficient to rule the heathen. Rev 19:15.

And does not Christ say, ‘I will send you the spirit of truth, which shall lead you into all truth, and bring to your rememberance the words I have spoken unto you?'

Is not this spirit a sufficient rule, that leads into all truth?

And were not they reproved for so doing? and was not that a sufficient rule? Are not they the sons of God who are led by the spirit of God? Rom 8:14. Is not that a sufficient rule to lead and guide?
