|Isaiah 61:1-3 |
1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me because the LORD has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound [in slavery to sin];
3 To give to those who mourn in Zion — beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; so that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.2
2 To give to those who mourn in Zion — beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; so that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified. The Lord comes to those who mourn their slavery to sin, who mourn their captivity, who mourn their darkness, whose heart is broken because of the evil they have seen within it, and who are in the prison-house of sin.
God reveals unrighteousness to the spiritual man. The natural man cannot accept the things of God and cannot see the depth of unrighteousness. This is a basic function of the Holy Spirit — to convince the world of sin [unrighteousness]. The typical sect-attending Christian has no concept of sin, limiting it to murder, theft, rape; he is unaware that intolerable sin includes: adultery, pre-marital sex, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of rage, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, partying... immorality, impurity, greed... evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. From the Word of the Lord within: "Every thought of man is at best a vain hiss." Sin, and all other understandings from God, have to be shown to a man by God, before a man can see sin and unrighteousness. What is to be known of God, is revealed by God within a man's heart. Rom 1:19. A man on earth will not know the depth of his slavery to sin until he goes to him; to wait on him — listen silently, with the humility of a sinner in need of his changing power — grace. Then the Lord will show him how the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the mind. Jer 17:9-10. And if when shown your sin, you regret and mourn them with resolve to change your conduct, the Lord will remove that sin from your heart. Keep listening and obeying his commands in faith, and the soul and heart are cleansed and purified.
