|Jeremiah 47 |
This is the word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, which was before Pharaoh had attacked Gaza.
Thus says the Lord: "Behold, waters will rise up out of the north, and they shall be an overflowing flood, which shall overflow the land and all that is in it; including the city and those who dwell in it. Then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
When the noise is heard of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, the rushing of his chariots, and rumbling of the wheels, the fathers will not look back to their children because their hands will be so feeble;
Because the day will come to destroy all the Philistines and to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper that remains for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
Baldness will come upon Gaza; Ashkelon will be cut off with the remnant of their valley. How long will you cut yourself?
'O you sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you are stilled? Put up yourself into your scabbard; rest, and be still.'
How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD has given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? There has he appointed it."
