|Jeremiah 14:14 |
14 Then the LORD said to me, "The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, neither have I commanded them, nor spoken to them.1 They prophesy to you a false vision and divination, worthless from the deceit of their heart.
1 The prophets prophesy lies in my name. I did not send them, neither have I commanded them, nor spoken to them. Many people believe that to prophesy is to predict the future, but to prophesy is: to preach; to instruct in religious doctrines; to interpret or explain Scripture or religious subjects; to exhort. 1 Cor 14:1-3. So your preachers, who have not been sent by God, who have not been commanded by God, who have not been spoken to by God, are false prophets. Hear what the Lord says about preachers who have not been sent, who preach for money:
He who says to the wicked, 'You are righteous;' him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him; Pro 24:24. (Telling those still sinning they are saved.)
Preaching for a salary is the error of Balaam, which is spiritual adultery, loving wages and profit — both Peter and Jude had some very grave things to say about those who solicit donations or preach for a salary: Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children — for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness.
You make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within are full of extortion and excess.
You are blind, first cleanse the inside of the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
You are like whitewashed tombs, outwardly beautiful, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.
So you also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. Mat 23:25-28
blackest darkness is reserved for those promising freedom to those just beginning to escape from sin. 2 Pet 2:15-18, Jude 1:11-13.
I will bring, upon them an everlasting reproach and perpetual shame that shall never be forgotten, Jer 23:40.
