Job 18

1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,

2 "How long will it be before you stop talking? Think clearly, and afterwards we will speak.

3 Why are we counted as beasts and reputed as stupid in your sight?

4 You who tears himself in his anger; shall the earth be forsaken for you? Shall the rock be removed out of its place?

5 Yes, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle [body], and his candle shall be put out with him.1

7 The steps of his strength shall be shortened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walks upon a snare.

9 The trap shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.

10 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

11 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive his step.

12 His strength shall be starved, and destruction shall be ready at his side.

13 It shall devour the strength of his skin; even death's firstborn shall devour his strength.2

14 He shall be rooted out of his tabernacle in which he had confidence, and he shall be brought before the king of terrors.

15 There shall dwell in his tabernacle that which is none of his; brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

16 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.

17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

18 He shall be driven from light into darkness,3 and chased out of the world.

19 He shall neither have son nor grandson among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

20 Those who come after him shall be appalled at his fate, like those who went before were frightened.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and such is the place of him who does not know God."

1 Regarding God's ways, Job's friends are ignorant compared to him; and far from perfect. They keep telling Job he is being punished for being a sinner; it never occurs to them that God would be afflicting a righteous man.

But despite his friends ignorance, they show more understanding of the ways of God than the entirety of Christendom, which is totally ignorant on the light of Christ vs. the darkness of men. Bildad speaks of the light being darkness in a man, of the candle of a man, and of a man driven from light to darkness, (verse 18). This is far more than 21st Century Christendom knows about the light within a man, and yet Bildad and Job had no scriptures to get lost in looking for proof of their eternal life; they only had their fathers [forefathers] and the Spirit of God to teach them, and so they obviously learned. Even though Bildad was ignorant compared to Job, consider the following words of Jesus that show Bildad knew far more than the preachers of today:

if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Mat 6:23.

But the children [Jewish heirs] of the kingdom will be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Mat 8:12
Bind him hand and foot, and take him away and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Mat 22:13
And cast the unprofitable servant into outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Mat 25:30

To understand the light fully, read George Fox's The Light. To read about the candle of a man, read The Spirit of Man, the Candle of the Lord: the Candle of the Wicked often put out.

2 death's firstborn shall devour his strength. Death's firstborn is Satan. Those who are not purified to enter union with God in this life, lose their body and soul, while their spirit survives. This loss becomes a spiritual food to Satan and his fallen angels, "the fowls of the air." Then the LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all livestock, and every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. Gen 3:14. (And what is dust, spiritually?) I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather yourselves together to the supper of the great God; That you may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great." Rev 19:17-18.

Look at the next verses: He shall be rooted out of the tabernacle he put his trust in. A man's body will be destroyed by death.
He shall be brought before the king of terrors. The king of terrors is Satan.

3 he shall be driven from light into darkness. God is light and Jesus dwells in unapproachable light. Heaven's light is Christ: And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light: and they shall reign forever and ever. Rev 22:5. At judgment, all those who died while still sinning will be sent to outer darkness.

Mat 25:30

They are sent to outer darkness to learn about the evil in their hearts and the depravity that results from it.
