Job 23

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

 1 Then Job answered and said,

 2 "Even today my complaint is bitter; my affliction exceeds my complaining.

 3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might even come to his seat!

 4 I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

 5 I would know the words that he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.

 6 Will he plead against me with his great power? No, he would take heed of me. The righteous could reason with him; so I would be delivered forever by my judge.

 8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him;

 9 On the left hand where he works, I cannot behold him. He hides himself on the right hand, so that I cannot see him.

 10 But he knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.1

 11 My foot has held his steps, his way I have I kept, and not declined.

 12 Neither have I gone back from the commands of His lips; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.2

 13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? And what his soul desires, even that he does.

 14 For he performs the thing that is appointed for me; and many such things are with him.

 15 Therefore I am troubled at his presence. When I consider, I am afraid of him,

 16 Because God makes my heart faint, soft, and broken; and the Almighty is a terror to me.

 17 Yet I have not been cut off [killed] by the darkness, and neither has he shielded the darkness from my face."

1 Job is exactly right. The purpose of God's trying a man is to make him pure like gold, to make him precious like gold, make him as rare as gold, make him as valuable as gold — a son to God who is immeasurably valuable to God. But who can endure the day of his coming? And who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap; and he will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi [priests], and refine them like gold and silver, so that they may offer to the LORD an offering in righteousness. Mal 3:2-3....I will make a man more precious than fine gold; a man even [more precious] than the gold of Ophir. Isa 13:12.... But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth for the Father seeks such to worship him. God is a Spirit, and those who worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth. John 4:23-24. The only way a man can worship God in Spirit and Truth is after he has been made pure, holy, and perfect because only then is a man pure enough for the Spirit to provide the words of prayer, praise, and worship to a man's lips.

2 Neither have I gone back from the commands of His lips; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. NOTE! He obeys the commands from God's lips; he esteems words from God's mouth more than food. Just like Jesus said: "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.' Mat 4:4." Listen to and obey My voice, and I will be your God and you will be My people; and walk completely in the ways that I have commanded you. Jer 7:23. Job and his friends, without a single scripture, knew more about seeking God than all of Christendom, many studying their Bibles daily; but they are without a clue as to how to seek God, what God requires, what God will not tolerate, and what God offers to man. From the Word of the Lord within: "Christianity has no idea who I am or what I stand for."
