Psalms 13

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 How long will you forget me, O LORD? Forever? How long will you hide your face from me?

2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? How long will my enemy exalt himself over me?1

3 Consider and answer me, O LORD my God; enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,2

4 Lest my enemy says, "I have prevailed against him" and those that trouble me rejoice when I am shaken.

5 But I have trusted in your mercy; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

6 I will sing to the LORD, because he has dealt bountifully with me.

1 How long will my enemy exalted himself over me? David was king. No human enemy could exalt himself over him; but a supernatural enemy did exalt himself over him; the fallen angels, the demons, used by God to chasten men. From a parallel dimension, these invisible beings torture and ridicule those men whom God deems worthy of scourging tribulation.

2 enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, David is speaking of spiritual enlightenment, when God causes his light to shine in your heart; without his light, we are in the sleep of death despite whatever religious ceremonies, rituals, scripture reading, praying, singing, or meetings that we participate in.
