|Psalms 50 |
1 The mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and calls the earth from the rising of the sun to its going down.
2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God has shined.
3 Our God comes and will not be silent; a fire devours before him, and a tempest rages around him.
4 He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 "Gather my saints to me, those who have made a covenant with me by sacrifice."
6 Let the heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge. Selah.
7 "Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against you; I am God, even your God.
8 I do not reprove you for your sacrifices or your burnt offerings, they are continually before me.
9 I have no need of a bullock out of your house or he goats out of your folds.
10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the mountains, and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
12 If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all its fullness.
13 Shall I eat the flesh of bulls or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and fulfill your vows to the most High,
15 And call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall honor and glorify me."
16 But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant upon your lips?
17 Since you hate my instruction, and cast my words behind you.
18 When you see a thief, you join with him, and have taken part with adulterers.
19 You give your mouth to evil, and your tongue frames deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your own mother's son.
21 These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought that I was entirely like you.1 But I will reprove you and set my charges [of your sins] against you in order before your eyes.
22 Now consider this, you who forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, with none to deliver:
23 Whoever offers praise, glorifies me; and to him who orders his way aright, will I show the salvation of God."

1What right have you to recite my statutes or take my covenant upon your lips; when you lie, steal, commit adultery, hate my instruction, cast my laws behind you, speak profanely, slander your brother, and think I am entirely like you? You who name yourselves "Christians", who call yourselves "saved sinners," see how God is addressing you too; you who would have no law; you who lie, steal, cheat, and use profanity; you who won't listen to God's voice, you who think God will embrace you in your sins — wake up! For God has not called us to uncleanness, but to holiness; and without holiness, no one will see the Lord. You can be sure: No sexually immoral, or impure, or covetous person, who is an is idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no one deceive you with vain words. For because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient. Eph 5:5-6. Finally, consider what the Lord said about sinners who called him Lord, who had cast out demons in his name, who had prophesied in his name, thinking they were real Christians: Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but [only] he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied [preached or taught] in your name? And in your name cast out demons? And in your name done many wonderful works?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you who work iniquity,' [sin, lawlessness, or wickedness]. Mat 7:21:23. See Only Those Who Do The Will of My Father Shall Enter Heaven for more on how this must be done.
You think I am entirely like you? God is pure, holy, perfect, and infinite; man is profane, full of error, finite, and dust. Man does not understand that God is far more different from him than man is different from a rat. There is no way we can be in the company of God until we have been purified. There is no place in heaven for liars, cheats, haters, those who lust for bodies, those who get angry, those who want something more, those who are covetous, those who are drunken, those whose tongues run with their brains, those whose thoughts are impure. But the Lord offers his grace to change us, through repentance on the inward cross of self-denial, to become pure and fit company for God in heaven.
