Psalms 58

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

Do you indeed speak righteousness in silence, O mighty ones? Do you judge uprightly, O you sons of men?

No, in your heart you devise wickedness; your hands weigh out violence in the earth.

The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

Their poison is like the poison of a serpent; they are like the deaf adder that stops its ear,

Which will not listen to the voice of charmers, even though they charm ever so skillfully.

Break their teeth in their mouth, O God; break out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD.

Let them flow away like waters which run continually; when he bends his bow to shoot, let his arrows be as if split in pieces.

Let every one of them pass away like a snail which melts as it goes, like the stillborn child of a woman that has not seen the sun.

Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns [fuel for the fire], he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both the green and the burning ones.

The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

So that a man will say, "Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely he is a God who judges in the earth."
