Psalms 72

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 Give the king your judgments, O God, and your righteousness to the king's son [Jesus as the descendent of David].

2 May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice.

3 The mountains will bring peace to the people, and the hills righteousness.

4 May he judge the poor of the people, deliver the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor.

5 So that they may [reverently] fear you as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations.

6 May he come down like rain upon the mown grass, like showers that water the earth.

7 In his days the righteous shall flourish and peace abound as long as the moon endures.

8 He shall have dominion from sea to sea and from the Euphrates River to the ends of the earth.

9 Those who dwell in the wilderness will bow before him and his enemies will lick the dust.

10 The kings of Tarshish and of the isles will bring presents; the kings of Sheba and Seba will offer gifts.

11 Yes, all kings shall fall down before him, all nations shall serve him.

12 For he delivers the needy when he cries, the poor also and him who has no helper.

13 He will spare the poor and weak, and will save the souls of the needy.

14 He will redeem their soul from deceit and violence, and their blood shall be precious in his sight.

15 He shall live; and to him will be given the gold of Sheba; prayer will also be made through him continually; and he shall be praised all day long.

16 There will be an abundance of grain in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit of it shall wave like Lebanon, and the city shall flourish like the grass of the earth.

17 His name shall endure forever; his name shall be continued as long as the sun. And men shall be blessed in him; all nations shall call him blessed.

18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things.

19 Blessed be his glorious name forever; and let the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen, and Amen.

20 The prayers of David the son of Jesse are ended.

1 Let the whole earth be filled with His [Jesus'] glory! This has not occurred yet, but the time is drawing near. The Lord will remove the veil, which obscures men's abilities to understand how different they are than God and what God requires of man. He will plead with all men: The LORD has a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; Jer 25:31. Those who fail to heed his pleas will be destroyed: He shall destroy the sinners out of the land, Isa 13:9. He will fill the whole earth with their dead bodies: the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth, Jer 25:33. Those who are left, he will dwell in, and rule the nations with a rod of iron through them, his saints, Rev 2:25-27. The earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.Isa 11:9, Hab 2:14. And they shall no longer teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them," Jer 31:34. The Lord shall deliver the righteous: Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the LORD delivers him out of them all. Psa 34:19.
