Romans 16

Previous Chapter

 1 I commend to you Phebe our sister, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea;

2 That you receive her in the Lord, as becomes saints, and that you assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for she has been a succourer of many, and of myself also.

3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus,

4 Who have for my life laid down their own lives; to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.

5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the first fruits of Achaia to Christ.

6 Greet Mary, who labored greatly for us.

7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are well known to the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.

8 Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord.

9 Salute Urbane, our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved.

10 Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute those who are of Aristobulus' household.

11 Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet those who be of the household of Narcissus, who are in the Lord.

12 Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labor in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, who labored much in the Lord.

13 Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.

14 Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brothers that are with them.

15 Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them.

16 Salute one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

17 Now I beseech you, brothers, mark those who cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine that you have learned; and avoid them.

18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own bellies [lusts]; and by fair speaking and captivating language deceive the hearts of the simple.

19 For your obedience has come abroad to all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf; but yet I would have you wise to that which is good, and simple concerning evil.

20 And the God of peace shall crush Satan under your feet shortly.1 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

21 Timothy my fellow worker, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen, salute you.

22 I Tertius, who wrote this epistle, salute you in the Lord.

23 Gaius my host, and of the whole church, salutes you. Erastus the chamberlain of the city salutes you, and Quartus a brother.

24 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

25 Now to him who is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,

26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets is made known to all nations according to the command of the everlasting God, for the obedience of faith.

27 To God, who only is wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

1 The God of Peace will soon come and crush Satan under your feet. There are only two spirits in the world: the spirit of Satan and the Spirit of Christ. All men have the spirit of Satan in control of them, which is selfish, lies, cheats, hates, lusts, and worse. This is manifest by our carnal minds which are enmity with God; our fleshly nature, living by which, no man can please God. This Spirit of Satan, the sinful nature, the old man, must be crucified on the inward cross of self-denial. This life of Satan's spirit must die, so the life of Christ's Spirit can increase and eventually rule your thoughts, words, and deeds. When a believer keeps repenting through obedience to the Lord's commands, the Lord appears to join with that person, creating an entirely new creature; just before that joining (or marriage) occurs, Christ destroys the selfish spirit in you by the spirit in his mouth and by the brightness of his coming, when he crushes the head of Satan under your feet. This is the promised salvation when you experience the grace of God (Christ) bringing it to you, when Christ fulfills through his victory over Satan, the wonderful promise of God, made to Eve, regarding the serpent who had deceived her; spoken of in Genesis 3:15: I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her Offspring; He will bruise and tread your head underfoot, and you will lie in wait and bruise His heel.
