Zechariah 10

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

1 Ask the LORD for rain in the time of the spring rain. It is the LORD who makes flashing lightning and gives men showers of rain, and grass in the field to everyone.

2 For the idols have spoken vanity and the diviners have seen a lie and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain. Therefore they went their way like sheep; they were troubled because there was no shepherd.

3 "My anger is kindled against the shepherds and I will punished the goat leaders1, for the LORD of hosts has visited his flock, the house of Judah, and has made them as his majestic horse in the battle.

4 Out of Judah comes the cornerstone, out of him the tent peg, out of him the battle bow, out of him every ruler.

5 And they shall be like mighty men, who tread down their enemies in the mire of the streets in the battle, and they shall fight because the LORD is with them, and the riders on horses shall be confounded.

6 And I will strengthen the house of Judah and I will save the house of Joseph, and I will bring them back again, for I have mercy upon them. And they shall be as though I had not cast them off, for I am the LORD their God, and I will hear them.

7 Then they of Ephraim shall be like a mighty man, and their heart shall rejoice as through wine; yes, their children shall see it, and be glad; their heart shall rejoice in the LORD.

8 I will whistle for them and gather them, for I have redeemed them, and they shall increase as they once increased.

9  Though I scatter them among the peoples, yet they shall remember me in far countries, and they with their children shall live and return again.

10 I will bring them again out of the land of Egypt and gather them out of Assyria, and I will bring them into the land of Gilead and Lebanon; until no more room is found for them.

11 He shall pass through the sea of affliction; and shall smite the waves of the sea, and all the depths of the river shall dry up; and the pride of Assyria shall be brought down and the scepter of Egypt shall depart.

12 And I will strengthen Israel in the LORD, and they shall walk up and down in his name, says the LORD."

1 My anger is kindled against the shepherds and I will punished the goat leaders. The shepherds of Christendom are all goat leaders. They have deceived their followers to believing a false salvation; so their followers remain sinning goats, rather than innocent sheep. They ignore the requirements of salvation, and forget the warnings of the exclusions. The ministers of Christendom think that salvation's Biblically stated requirements of cleansingpurityperfection, and holiness are impossible. They don't know how to receive the changing power of God. They deny it is necessary to suffer on the cross of Christ. The goat leaders are self-appointed; not appointed by the Holy Spirit for the perfecting of the saints; not taught, perfected, restored, and authorized by the Lord. So the goat leaders read the dead letter of the Bible to their goats, rather than speak words supplied by the Holy Spirit, words that give life to their followers, changing them from goats to sheep. The letter kills, the spirit gives life. 2 Cor 3:6; The words that I speak to you are spirit, and the are life. John 6:63. But true shepherds speak words supplied by the Spirit of God; as Paul said: Which things we speak, not in the words, which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit instructs; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 1 Cor 2:13; and as Peter said: If any man speaks, let him speak with God's words [oracles]; 1 Pet 4:11.

The preachers today, feed themselves, by taking money from the goats. Preaching for a salary is the error of Balaam, which is spiritual adultery, loving wages and profit — both Peter and Jude had some very grave things to say about those who solicit donations or preach for a salary. Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children — for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness. PeterPaul, and Jesus all spoke strongly against preachers who took money from the flock, feeding themselves at the expense of their listeners; the goat leaders of Christendom.
