Zechariah 12

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

 1 The is the word of the LORD concerning Israel: "Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens and lays the foundation of the earth and forms the spirit of man within him.

 2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling to all the surrounding peoples, and when they are in the siege against Judah, there will also be a siege against Jerusalem.

 3 And in that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all peoples; all who try to lift it will be cut in pieces. And all the people of the earth will gather together against it.1

 4 In that day, says the LORD, I will strike every horse with panic and his rider with madness; and I will open my eyes upon the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness.

 5 And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, 'The inhabitants of Jerusalem are our strength in the LORD of hosts, their God.'

 6 In that day I will make the governors of Judah like a firepot among the wood and like a torch of fire in a sheaf of grain, and they shall devour all the surrounding peoples, on the right hand and on the left; and Jerusalem shall be inhabited again in her own place, even in Jerusalem.

 7 The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and the glory of the inhabitants of Jerusalem do not magnify themselves against Judah.

 8 In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and he who is feeble among them in that day shall be like David; and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the LORD before them.

 9 And it shall come to pass in that day that I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.2

 10 And I will pour upon the house of David and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem the spirit of grace and of supplications. And they will look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve for him as one who grieves for his firstborn.3

 11 On that day there shall be a great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.

 12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart: the family of the house of David apart and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart and their wives apart;

 13 The family of the house of Levi apart and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart and their wives apart;

 14 All the families that remain, every family apart and their wives apart.

1 Jerusalem will become the source of great guilt to the whole earth; and anyone who tries to extinguish this source [the Saints of Christ] of conviction for their sins, will be cut to pieces. The whole world will gather against Jerusalem, to extinguish the convicting light and power of Christ in his Saints, but they will fail — as the Book of Revelation predicts.

2 All the nations that come against Jerusalem will be destroyed. And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army. Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh. Rev 19:19-21.

3 they will look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for his only son, and will grieve for him as one who grieves for his firstborn. Each time you sin, you are piercing Christ within you. If you have sorrow and regret, with resolve to not repeat the same mistake again, you have godly sorrow. From the Word of the Lord within: "your godly sorrow is a soothing balm to the wounds you have inflicted on me."

He said: For the Son of man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels;
and then he will reward every man according to his works.
(Not just a particular generation.)
Some standing here will not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom. Mat 16:27-8,Mar 8:38,9:1,Luk 9:26-27

Those not purified, to see Jesus' coming in them before death, see him as they die, as all peoples, all nations, all generations do.
Behold, he comes with clouds; and every eye will see him, and they also which pierced him: (also, the Jews 2000 years ago)
and all the peoples of the earth will wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Rev 1:7.
2000 years ago, to the Jewish High Priest and the Pharisees at his trial, Jesus said..
you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.  Mark 14:62

This is not a particular generation in our time or later. (See Howgill for more on those not purified).
