Zephaniah 3

Previous Chapter

"Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, the oppressing city [Jerusalem]!

She did not obey His voice; she did not receive correction; she did not trust in the LORD; she did not draw near to her God.

Her officials within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves that leave nothing for the morning.

Her prophets are light and treacherous people; her priests have defiled the sanctuary; they have done violence to the law.

The LORD in the midst of her is righteous; he will not do iniquity. Every morning he brings his justice to light; he does not fail, but the unjust knows no shame.

I have cut off the nations; their towers are desolate. I made their streets waste so that none pass by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, there is no inhabitant.

I said, 'Surely you will fear me and receive instruction!' Then their dwelling would not be cut off. However, I have punished them, but they still rose early and corrupted all their doings.

Therefore wait upon me, says the LORD, until the day that I rise up as a witness or a testimony. For my determination is to gather the nations, so that I may assemble the kingdoms to pour my indignation upon them, all my fierce anger; for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

For then I will give pure speech from pure lips to the people, so that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.

From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed people, shall bring my offering.

In that day you shall not be ashamed for all your deeds by which you have transgressed against me, for then I will take away from your midst those who rejoice in your pride, and you shall no longer be haughty because of my holy mountain.

But I will leave a humble and lowly people in the midst of you, and they shall trust in the name of the LORD.

The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity or speak lies, neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth, for they shall feed and lie down and no one shall make them afraid.

Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

The LORD has taken away the judgments against you, he has cast out your enemy. The king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of you; you shall not fear evil any more.

In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, 'Fear not, O Zion. Let not your hands be slack.

The LORD your God in the midst of you, The Mighty One, will save! He will rejoice over you with joy; he will rest in his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.'

I will gather those of you who yearn for the solemn assembly, to whom the reproach of it is a burden.

Behold, at that time I will deal with all those who afflict you; I will save the lame and gather those who were driven out and give them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.

At that time will I bring you back again; in that time that I gather you, for I will make you a name and a praise among all the people of the earth, when I reverse your captivity before your eyes, says the LORD."
