53 But the people would not receive him, because his face was set as though he was going to Jerusalem.
54 And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, do you wish us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, even as Elijah did?"
55 But he turned and rebuked them, saying, "You do not know what sort of spirit you are of.4 [The disciples had not yet been cleansed and purified by the baptism of fire at Pentecost, so they were still under control of the spirit of Satan, as are all men until they have been crucified on the inward cross of self-denial. This verse proves that all the Protestant and Catholic sects that killed, (or even approved of killing), those with a different religious opinion were very different from real Christians; in even considering murder, they were following and yielding to their father the devil, who was the murderer from the beginning.]
37 But let your 'yes' be 'yes,' and your 'no,' 'no;' for whatever is more than these comes from the evil one6 [the spirit of Satan within you]. [Man's heart is full of evil; man's mind is enmity to God. What an uncrucified man speaks is from his evil heart, mind, and spirit. Until our selfish spirit, the spirit of Satan, that every man has, is crucified, most all of what we speak is from that Spirit of Satan; even if you have "accepted Jesus," your mouth is still controlled by the spirit of Satan until it is crucified on the inward cross of self-denial to be replaced by the Spirit of Christ to rule your heart in thoughts, words, deeds.]
23 But he turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan!2 You are a stumbling block to me because you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but on man’s.” [Peter was speaking under control of the spirit of Satan, which all men are until their evil, selfish, satanic spirit has been crucified on the inward cross of self-denial.]
2 Where in times past you walked according to the ways of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air [Satan], which is the spirit who now works in the children of disobedience. [Until you are obediently guided by the Spirit of Christ in all thoughts, words, and deeds, you are a child of disobedience: a descendant of Adam, the disobedient, fallen man; and until you have crucified that selfish, Satanic spirit within you, you are walking according to Satan's direction, which is walking in lust, fulfilling the desires of your flesh and the thoughts of your carnal mind.]
3 Among whom we also all had our conduct in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the thoughts of our mind; and were by nature the children of wrath and the object of His indignation, just as the rest of mankind.1 [Notice! All mankind walks in sinful lusts, according to the desires of their flesh and thoughts of their mind, which is under Satan's direction. However, Paul is speaking to crucified believers, who are no longer controlled by the lusts of their flesh; who no longer think their own thoughts, whose sinful nature has been destroyed, including its carnal mind, replaced by the mind of Christ.]
|1 John 3:8|
8 He who commits sin is of the devil, for the devil sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God is revealed [in us], that he might destroy [in us] the works [sin] of the devil.4 [Let no man deceive you, saying that you can still be sinning and belong to God; those still sinning serve the devil. Christ is revealed in our flesh to destroy the works of the devil, by condemning the secret sins in our heart, and then destroying even our desire to sin. Paul confirms Jesus destroying the works of the devil in each purified believer: "the God of peace shall crush Satan under your feet shortly." Rom 16:20.]
|Acts 26:17-18 |
17 Delivering you from the [Jewish] people, and from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you,
18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, release from sin's slavery, and an inheritance among those who are sanctified and purified by faith in me.'2
