James 2:20-24

20 Are you willing to be shown, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? [James addresses vain Christian believers who think that faith alone is sufficient. Faith must be demonstrated by works energized by love: first works of repentance, then to be led by the Spirit of Grace in how to live godly, soberly, and righteously in the present world until you are purified; then after purity to serve Him as He orders our works to his glory.]

21 Was not "Abraham our father justified by works, when [in obedience to God's voice] he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?"

22 See how faith energized and motivated his works, and by works his faith was made perfect. [Not in works of the law, which works are selected and performed by man's will; but works in obedience to God's specific direction — works of loving obedience to God's orders — thy will being done, on earth as it is in heaven — operational faith. The first works of love for God are: a) to wait in humble silence as you listen and watch for His commands, and b) then to obey His spoken commands that you hear to repent from the sins He reveals in your heart.]

23 And the scripture was fulfilled that said, "Abraham believed God, and it was imputed [accounted] to him as righteousness; and he was called the Friend of God." [Righteousness is imputed when you receive faith with the fruit of the Spirit, against which is no law, to then walk in love, obeying the continuous commands of Christ; this occurs at the death of your selfish spirit on the inward cross of self-denial. When you possess the fullness of Christ, that ends imputation, and you are righteous as He is righteous.]

24 You see then how a man is justified by works, and not only by faith.5 [A man is not justified by works of the law; instead a man is justified by works of obedience to God's voice, which works are evidence of operational faith. Our faith must motivate us to seek to hear God's voice, to believe his words to be true, and then our faith must energize us to perform works commanded that we hear him speak to us . Otherwise our faith is the lip service of the hypocrites.]

Galatians 5:6

6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision, nor uncircumcision empowers a thing, but faith owing to love operates with power. [What faith owing to love?—faith is to hear the word of God spoken to you and to then obey because you love God; to obey God is to love God. When you obey what God orders you to do, you get power from Him to do it. Loving works of obedience to God's commands is faith operating with power from God; so Paul agrees with James, who wrote, "faith without works is dead," James 2:20-24. John wrote, "he who practices truth comes to the light, so that his deeds may be shown to have been produced [formed and powered] through God," John 3:21; such works are the only works that survive passing through the fire, which every man must go through. The first works of love for God are: a) to wait in humble silence as you listen and watch for His commands, and b) then to obey His spoken commands that you hear to repent from the sins He reveals in your heart. From the Word of the Lord within: "What is the evidence of your belief? — operational faith. Faith is to hear the Word of God and obey. If you love me, you will obey me. He who does not love me does not obey my commands."]

27 And whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.4 [The blind guides of Christendom ignore the cross and tell their followers that they are already saved just by believing in Jesus; but unless you carry the inward cross of self denial to crucify your selfish lusts, passions, and desires, you will be banned from heaven at death. To come after Christ you must wait in humble silence, listening for Him to speak to you from the Word within your heart; faith is to hear Him, and then you must obey Him. Self-denial occurs by obeying the Lord's spoken commands instead of your will, (His will, not your will); this is bearing the crossthe inward cross of self-denial.]

33 So likewise, whoever does not forsake all that he has cannot be my disciple.6 [Everyone who has forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive a hundredfold, and will inherit everlasting life. Mat 19:29. When you continually deny yourself and obey the Lord's commands, you will forsake your entire selfish life, and thereby save your soul to live Life in union with God.]

14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity [lawless deeds, sin], and purify for himself a people who are his very own, zealous for good works.1 [Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh [the sinful nature] with its passions and desires [lusts and affections], Gal 5:24, to become pure. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. John 10:27. From the Word of the Lord within: "If you are still sinning, you belong to sin and not to Me."]

21 But he who practices truth comes to the light, so that his deeds may be shown to have been produced [formed and powered] through God." [Those who have been experiencing the Spirit's removal of sin from their hearts, love the light and eagerly come to the light for further destruction of sin. Those who have been freed from sin, eagerly come to the light to be directed by God to do works of love, to their joy and God's glory: for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. Eph 2:10. A man comes to the light by waiting on God in humble silence, watching and listening in hope of change by Jesus. Those who come to the light, love Christ, as evidenced by their obedience to the truth of what the Light and Word reveals to them; and they come to see more light, which then guides them in all words and deeds.]
