1 Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth. [Jesus said, "He who is of God, hears God's words," John 8:47; "Take heed what you hear; with what measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given." Mark 4:24-25.]
2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter hidden things of old —
10 Listen, O daughter, consider and incline your ear; forget your own people and your father's house;
1 "Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters, and he who has no money, come, buy and eat; yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
2 Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? And your hard-earned money for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.1 [Note! To listen is to eat the bread of life, who is Jesus; his words that he speaks to you impart the life of God.]
3 Incline your ear, and come to me. Hear, and your soul shall live;2 and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies promised to David. [To come to Him, we go directly to Him, by sitting in humble silence as we wait on Him, listening for His voiced commands and teachings. From the Word of the Lord within: "We go to him, and he rains help on us; well does this exercise of God purify those who do. Come to me with the hope of speaking and acting righteously."]
14 At the end of seven years you shall free every man that is a brother Hebrew who has been sold to you; and when he has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you; but your fathers did not heed me, neither did they incline their ear to listen to me.
15 I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, 'Return you now every man from his evil ways, and amend your doings, and do not seek after other gods to serve them; then you shall dwell in the land that I have given to you and to your fathers.' But you have not inclined your ear, nor heeded me.
4 And the LORD has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but you have not obeyed, or inclined your ear to hear.
|Proverbs 4:20,2:2 |
2 So that you incline your ear [listen] to wisdom and apply your heart and mind to understanding, [wisdom is spoken from the mouth of God to be heard by your inclined ear, not read from a book];
