Psalms 11:5 Display Chapter and Footnotes   5 The LORD tries the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and him who loves violence.1 [Note the Lord hates those who love violence, and our entire society loves violence. Books, TV, movies, newspapers, magazines, video games, and even cartoons are full of violence; and the violence has to become increasingly brutal to titillate our entertainment. So it's not only those who act violently who have a problem, but also those who attend the latest Hollywood thriller, who aggressively indulge in computer games, who watch the murder shows on TV, who devour the news looking for stories of peoples' tragedies, etc. We can say we hate violence, but then we eagerly watch and read the media that is full of it, proving our love of violence. On the day after the Batman slaughter in Denver came this from the Word of the Lord within, "Speak out against it. Violence has become pervasive." The definition of pervasive is: "spreading through the whole of something and becoming a very obvious feature of it;" it is our entire society. We stand convicted by God; we are addicted to violence, sexual immorality, and profanity that spews from our entertainment media continually.] | Genesis 6:11-13 Display Chapter and Footnotes   11 The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God looked upon the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all people had corrupted their ways upon the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, "I am going to make an end of all flesh, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. [Since the earth is again filled with violence and our fascinated love of violence, as evidenced by our music, TV, magazines, movies, video games, etc., should we not take the warnings of the Lord's purging of the earth again very seriously? See Isaiah 24 for the details of those warnings.] |
