|Ephesians 4:13,22-24 |
13 Until we all come to the unity of the faith, and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;5 [If you are a perfect man and possess the fullness of Christ, you have everything possible: including fellowship with Christ and the Father, raised to heaven, sitting with Christ in the kingdom, in union with Christ and God, free from even the desire to sin, pure, holy, sanctified, permanently cleansed and perfected, and protected from ever sinning again — all while still alive on earth.]
22 Strip yourselves of your former nature that controlled your conduct, which corrupts itself through lusts and desires that spring from delusion;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
7 Strip yourselves of your former nature that controlled your conduct, which corrupts itself through lusts and desires that spring from delusion; For if you live after the flesh, you will die; but if through the Spirit you mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body, you will live. Rom 8:13. Therefore mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body which are of the earthly life; fornication, impurity, inordinate affections, evil lusts of the flesh, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Col 3:5. Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh [the sinful nature] with its passions and desires [lusts and affections]. Gal 5:24. The cross is to humbly get quiet to listen for his word within your heart, then you must wait to hear Him, and then you must obey Him. Crucifixion of your lusts and desires occurs by obeying the Lord's voice instead of your will (His will, not your will); this is to deny yourself and pick up your cross and follow Jesus.]
your conduct, which corrupts itself through lusts and desires that spring from delusion. Lust is a delusion, originally fostered by the devil. You lust for something because you think it is good, (like Eve was fooled by the devil that the fruit from the tree of knowledge would make her wise, and was good to the eye), and will make you happy. We are sold by word of mouth and advertising that if we had a new house, a new car, a new dress, a new cell phone, a vacation in Hawaii, a drink, a drug, a body, a special food, a special drink — if only we had this or that we would be happy; but then we get it, and immediately focus our attention on getting something else for satisfaction. The continual barrage of deluding temptations are fostered by the Spirit of Satan; by their lying promise, they create lust for something, which is delusion. There is no satisfaction in this life, until you join with the life of God; he is lasting satisfaction, eternal peace and joy. The joys of the earth are transitory, but the joy in the kingdom is eternal. The pleasures of the earth are not filling, and only create the hunger for more. Some people never stop to realize that however much they get, happy to be still looking for something more, expecting the world to provide it; to those the Lord said: woe to you who are full! For you shall hunger. Luke 6:25; if you are content with ever seeking the things and pleasures of the world, you will be very discontent in the next life. From the Word of the Lord within: "Most people go through life never needing, never seeking a lasting solution; after death there is a sense of regret over their life."
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And put on the newly created nature [of Christ], which is created in God's image of true righteousness and holiness. Note! Paul is telling us that salvation is to be renewed into the image of God, like Adam was in before he fell, and which results in true righteousness and holiness.
