11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the guards from the tomb went into the city, and told the chief priests all the things that had occurred.
12 And when the priests had assembled with the elders and had discussed it, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,
13 Saying, "Say that His disciples came by night, and stole him away while you were sleeping.
14 And if the governor hears of this, we will explain this to him to keep you safe."
15 So they took the money, and did as they were ordered; and this story is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
|John 20:11-18 |
11 But Mary stood outside the tomb weeping; and as she wept, she stooped down and looked into the tomb.
12 And she saw two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been placed,
13 And they said to her, "Woman, why do you weep?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my LORD, and I do not know where they have laid him."
14 And when she had finished saying that, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not recognize him to be Jesus.
15 Then Jesus said to her, "Woman, why do you weep? Whom do you seek?" And she, supposing him to be the gardener, said to him, "Sir, if you have taken him from here, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away."
16 Jesus said to her, "Mary." Then she turned back around, and said to him, "Rabbi;" which is to say, Master.
17 Jesus then said to her, "Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, 'I ascend to my Father and your Father, and to my God and your God.'" [Note! The God of Jesus is the Father. Jesus did not claim to be God; Jesus said he was the Son of God, Luke 22:70, and the Father was greater than Him, John 14:28.]
18 Then Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things to her.
