1 Corinthians 1:19-21,3:18-20

Display Chapter and Footnotes

19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the intelligent."

20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. [The wise of the world, including Christianity, considers the message and hope of the true gospel attained by repentance while bearing the cross to be foolishness, superfluous, and useless; the wise of the world are perishing.]

Display Chapter and Footnotes

18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, so that he may be wise.

19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, "He traps the wise in their own craftiness."

20 And again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."
