1 John 1:7,9

Display Chapter and Footnotes

7 But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship [in the Spirit] with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.3 [To walk in the light is to be guided by God, (who is light), in what to say and do. All men sit in darkness and walk in darkness until the light arises in their hearts. From the Word of the Lord within: "Light comes from faith in the voice." You can be walking in the light and in fellowship, and then through lack of watchfulness have an unintentional slip; but that can be forgiven and cleansed.]

9 If we do not deny our sins [when he reproves us], he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [When we go to Christ to sit and wait on Him, as He (the Light) shows us our sins and we acknowledge them, He will forgive and purify us of that sin. We believed Christ, and our obedience shows that we love the truth who is Christ.]

3 Now you are to be clean through the word that I have spoken to you.1 [Those words you hear the Lord speak to you are Spirit and life-giving; those spoken words you hear are engrafted into your heart, cleansing you a little more. From the Word of the Lord within: "Like the Apostles, you too must be cleansed. Only those who want to be clean can hear. I am only reached by those with a penitent heart. The Spirit gives life with every word heard. Hear and live."]

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are: sexual immorality (including adultery and fornication), impurity, lust, [The works of the flesh are sin, and the wages of sin are death. From the Word of the Lord within: "Consequence-free sin does not exist; the consequences are truly staggering. There is a war you must win: sin must be overcome; the fleshly lusts war against your soul."]

20 Idolatry (including covetousness), sorcery, hatred, arguments, jealousy, anger, ambition, divisiveness, factions, [From the Word of the Lord within: "Do not be misled; anger must be eliminated to enter the kingdom."]

21 Envy, drunkenness, revelry (partying), and the like; which I say beforehand, as I have said before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.4 [All men do works of the flesh because their hearts are defiled until they have been crucified on the inward cross of self-denial, and in no way shall there enter into heaven anything that is defiled. Rev 21:27]

21 For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, [The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked...Jer 17:9]

22 Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lack of restraint, an evil eye [envy], blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. [..for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth...Gen 8:21]

23 All these evil things come from within a man, and defile him."3 [Every man's heart starts filled with evil, filled with sin, defiled, and disqualified for heaven. Unless your heart is cleansed and purified by the Lord's Spirit that destroys sin within man, every man walks according to the ways of the world and the god of this world, fulfilling their desires and lusts of their flesh according to their thoughts, according to their evil imagination, according to their carnal minds that are enmity against God and cannot be subject to the law of God. Every man is judged by their words and works, including those who claim to be Christians; God shows partiality to no man. From the word of the Lord within: "Only a heart that is purged of sin is acceptable to God. Everyone is expecting Jesus to be their excuse. If you are still sinning, you belong to sin and not to Me. See myself — thus no sin has a place in me. You are without excuse O man. Sin in believers is intolerable. The pure is innocent of all defilement." You can think you are a Christian and call Him "Lord," but if you die still sinning, you are banned from heaven. All defiled men are banned from heaven. When purified by grace, men are translated into heaven while on earth and then forever. To be freed of sin, even the desire to sin, you must obey the Lord's spoken commands that you expose yourself to hear, by waiting on Him in humble silence as you listen and watch; that is the one thing needed. Luke 10:39-42.]

Ephesians 5:3,5-6

3 But as becomes the saints, do not let sexual immorality, all uncleanness, or covetousness, be named among you even once.

5 For of this you can be sure, that no sexually immoral, or impure, or covetous person, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. [The peoples of the earth have ignored these perfectly clear behaviors, (sexual immorality, impurity, covetousness), that exclude any and all from the kingdom. From the Word of the Lord within: "Ephesians 5:5-6: This the void of the earth, made perfectly clear. Those who are immoral have no inheritance in God's kingdom." Paul just told us that covetousness is idolatry. So whatever we value or want without genuine need, we worship; and how one spends their free time defines their devotion. From the Word of the Lord within: "you must learn to hate everything you worship."]

6 Let no man deceive you with vain words. For because of such things God's wrath comes on those who are disobedient.1 [Paul warns you not to be deceived by anyone who tells you differently, (e.g., that your sexual immorality, impurity, and covetousness is excused by believing in Jesus), which is what the preachers of Christianity do; but even the demons believe in Jesus. It is only by waiting on the Lord to hear and obey his commands that one can become pure, free of sexual immorality, and free of covetousness. From the Word of the Lord within: "The way is clear: listen and obey."]

9 How shall a young man cleanse his ways? By taking heed to and watching for your word.1 [One does not watch for scriptures, but one does listen and watch for the word of the Lord within your heart to speak and/or provide a vision with crystal-clear understanding. Reading scriptures does not cleanse you; but when you sit in humble silence and wait for the Lord, listening and watching for His word, each word you hear cleanses you a little more because each word that He speaks to you imparts the life of God to you as it is engrafted into your heart.]

2 Corinthians 7:1

1 Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.1 [Richard Claridge, an outstanding early Quaker, profoundly wrote: "The real happiness of man consists in being truly religious, or holy, in our measures, as God is holy; for holiness and happiness are so nearly related, that the one cannot be, or subsist, without the other. Holiness is happiness begun, and happiness is holiness in perfection." From the Word of the Lord within: "There came a view that happiness and holiness are separable."]

Hebrews 10:14

14 For by one offering he has forever totally cleansed and perfected those who are sanctified and made holy.1 [From the Word of the Lord within: "Either make the tree good, or make the tree bad. A tree that is holy is a good one. We seek a lasting perfection of holiness. Grace destroys sin. The changes that the Spirit makes are long lasting. We seek a permanent relationship. In the Old Testament it was not a permanent relationship; they often lost it. Temporary perfection is replaced by permanent perfection. Once you are in union, it is permanent."]
