1 John 5:14-15

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. [He hears what you ask only if you ask according to His will; and unless you have crucified your sinful nature, to receive his Spirit in sufficient measure to reveal His will, you have no idea what His will is. Christianity suffers from the sad delusion that God is waiting for their prayers so that He can do their will on earth. They have no idea that they could do His will on earth as it is in heaven, NOW, by them taking up the cross and crucifying their carnal minds and evil imaginations to receive a new heart, new mind, and new Spirit; so that the believer is pure enough to be God's servant, hearing from God the words to pray before praying, hearing from God the words to speak before speaking, and seeing from God what is to be done before doing it, thus to bring pleasure, honor, and glory to God.]

15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. [Since He only hears if we ask according to His will, this is why the vast majority of prayers, made in the carnal minds of beginning believers, are never answered. When we can do His will, we hear what to pray from Him, and we know for sure such prayers are heard and will be granted. Notice how this verse alone, (quoted out of context, absent verse 14 above), creates a horrible error in understanding. From the Word of the Lord within: "Problems stem from people taking the Bible and saying, 'Look what this verse says.'"]
