1 John 5:18

Display Chapter and Footnotes

 18 We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; instead God protects the one he has fathered, and the wicked one does not touch him.5 [The one whom God has fathered is a new creature, who is the believer with Christ resurrected within him; both then are raised to the heavens, to sit down in Christ, who never fell. He cannot fall to sin again because God protects him; he is sanctified, protected from evil. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. John 10:29. Those born again live in heaven, but they also still walk the earth with Christ dwelling within them and guiding them with all words to speak and all deeds to be performed.]

John 17:15-18

 15 I do not pray that you should take them out of the world, but that you should protect them from the evil.1 [Your sight and consciousness are in heaven, but you are still on the earth serving the Lord. From the Word of the Lord within: "You can live in heaven and still walk the earth. I will come again to the elect; I will be a crown to lead and guide them."]

 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.

 17 Sanctify [make them holy, purify, consecrate] them through your truth. Your word is truth.

 18 As you have sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

Ephesians 5:25-27

Display Chapter and Footnotes

 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it [the church of believers] with the washing of water by the word,3 [This is one of the critical verses to be understood. The Greek for word in this verse is rhmati <4487>, which in English means: 1) that which is or has been uttered by the living voice, thing spoken, word; 1a) any sound produced by the voice and having definite meaning; 1b) speech, discourse; 1b1) what one has said. Hearing someone read words from the Bible does not result in any cleansing or sanctifying whatsoever; but the words that Christ speaks to you do result in your cleansing. Now you are to be clean through the word which I have spoken to you, John 15:3; and Peter said to him, "You shall never wash my feet." Jesus answered him, "If I don't wash you, you have no part with me." John 13:8.]

 27 So that he might present it to himself as a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it would be holy and without blemish.
