 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, "Give us a king to judge us." And Samuel prayed to the LORD.

 The LORD said to Samuel, "Do not listen to the voice of the people in all that they say to you for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, so that I would not reign over them.

  They have forsaken me and served other gods, according to all the works that they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day; and so they also do to you.

 He will take your daughters to be confectionaries, to be cooks, and to be bakers.

 He will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive yards, and then give them to his servants.

 And he will take the tenth of your seed and of your vineyards, and give them to his officer and to his servants.

 And he will take your menservants, your maidservants, your finest cattle, and your asses, to put them all to his work.

 He will take the tenth of your sheep; and you shall be his servants.

 And you shall cry out in that day because of your king that you shall have chosen for yourselves; and the LORD will not hear you in that day."

 Despite the Lord's protest, the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, "No; nevertheless we desire to have a king over us;
