1 Thessalonians 1 Next Chapter ¹ Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, to the church of the Thessalonians that is in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be to you and peace. ² We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers, ³ Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of our God and Father. ⁴ We know, beloved brothers, your election by God; ⁵ For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much conviction. You know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. ⁶ And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit.¹ ⁷ So that you were examples to all who believe in Macedonia and Achaia. ⁸ For the word of the Lord resounded out from you, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place where the report of your faith toward God has spread; so that we do not need to say anything about it, ⁹ For they themselves testify about us, what kind of entrance we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, ¹⁰ And to wait for his Son from heaven,² whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivered us from the wrath to come. ¹ You received the word in much affliction. Indeed, all who are determined to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 2 Tim 3:12. Expect it; when it comes it will be a comfort: thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me, Psa 23:4. The rod is for painful correction; the staff is to pull you into line. See the scriptures speaking of tribulation, and see the writing on tribulation.

² To wait for his Son from heaven. Unless you think Paul was deluded or a liar, this verse is one of the many evidencing that the return, second coming, or second appearance of Jesus, is in the hearts of individual purified believers, who have purified their hearts in hopes of seeing him.
