1 Peter 4:12-13

12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial, which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; [Before purification and salvation, your faith must be tested in several trials, in which you must grievously suffer in order to be purified of sin. Salvation comes after suffering in various trials. "For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and scourges every son whom he accepts. If you are without chastisement [correcting rebuke and discipline], of which all [true sons of God] must share, then you are illegitimate, and not sons." Heb 12:6,8. Salvation comes after suffering; in fact, there are seven trials every son must endure before salvation and being accepted as a son.]

13 But rejoice, since you are partakers of Christ's sufferings, so that when his glory is revealed, you may be glad with exceeding joy.4

11 This is a faithful saying: If we have died with him, we will also live with him. [To have died with the Lord is to have had your sinful nature mortified and crucified on the inward cross of self-denial, and to have undergone the baptism of death: Therefore we were buried with him by baptism into death, Rom 6:4; and being buried with him in the true baptism, you also rise with him. Col 2:12. Like the resurrection of Lazarus, after you undergo the baptism of death, the Lord calls you by name to "come forth." This is not to be presumed; it must be experienced.]

12 If we suffer, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us. [You must have fellowship with Christ in his sufferings; 1 Pet 4:12-13. Indeed, all who are determined to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 2 Tim 3:12. For it is given to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for his sake. Phil 1:29.]

12 Indeed, all who are determined to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.3 [The same sufferings are being experienced by all your brothers in the world. 1 Pet 5:9]

21 For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, so that you should follow in his steps. [From the Word of the Lord within: "I would just as soon have avoided that horrible death. I did it to show you the extent of obedience required for your own salvation. You shall suffer persecution when you lead a godly life. Any of you whose sting to bear has been hard, use these facts: all have suffered before you; sin is excoriated; God will remove the burden in time; and the same is experienced by every cleanliness-desired heart in the nations." Paul said, "it is through many trials and tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God."]

1 Therefore, since Christ has suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same mind because he who has suffered in the flesh is finished with sin, [From the Word of the Lord within: "Any of you whose sting to bear has been hard, use these facts: 1) all have suffered before you; 2) sin is excoriated; 3) God will remove the burden in time; and 4) the same is experienced by every cleanliness-desired heart in the nations."]

6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and scourges every son whom he accepts."4 [The pain of a wound cleanses away evil, so do stripes purge the inward parts [including the heart] of man, Pro 20:30.]

10 That I may know him, to experience the power of his resurrection, to share in his sufferings, and even be conformed to him in his death; [Because of Adam, we all are dead in our sins, dead to the life of God, Gen 2:17,3:24, having been cut off from the tree of life. Paul writes of experiencing the power of His resurrection. If you will reign with him, you must suffer with him; 2 Tim 2:12. if you will live with him, you must die with him; 2 Tim 2:11. and if you die with him, you must be buried with him, Rom 6:4. and being buried with him in the true baptism, you also rise with him. Col 2:12, Eph 2:6.]
