2 Corinthians 5:17

Display Chapter and Footnotes

17 Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.5 [To be in Christ is to be an entirely new creature; the world and all its things have passed away from your sight. From the Word of the Lord within: "If anyone is standing with a new heart, he is a new creature. To be in Jesus is to be in truth. He who is in my name is part of my body." When you are in Jesus, or in truth, or in his name, you have been freed from even the desire to sin, translated into the kingdom, in union with Him, and sitting with Jesus in heaven under his full control of your words and deeds. Anyone who claims to be in Christ when they are not crucified is taking His name in vain; or doing anything while stating you do it in His name or in the name of Jesus is also taking His name in vain.]

5 But whoever obeys his spoken words [obeys the Lord's commands spoken to him], truly the love of God is perfected in him;1 by this we know that we are in him. [Anyone who claims to be in Christ when they are not crucified is taking His name in vain; or doing anything while stating you do it in His name or in the name of Jesus is also taking His name in vain.]

12 No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love is perfected in us. [Jesus Christ, who was a part of God from the beginning, reveals God through himself. To see Jesus revealed in your heart, is to see God. Jesus is the image and substance of the invisible God. Col 1:15.]

Romans 8:1

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.1 [To walk after the Spirit is to be led by the Spirit in thoughts, words, and deeds. If you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Gal 5:18. To walk after the flesh is to walk according to your carnal mind and evil heart, before it has been cleansed and purified; until then you are not in Christ Jesus because your are still walking in the flesh — in your lusts, desires, affections, pleasures, pride, anger, vanity, fear, worries, plans, etc. Anyone who claims to be in Christ when they are not crucified is taking His name in vain; or doing anything while stating you do it in His name or in the name of Jesus is also taking His name in vain.]

Galatians 5:24

24 Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh [the sinful nature] with its passions and desires [lusts and affections].6 [After your sinful nature has been put to death on the inward cross of self-denial, then you belong to Christ as you walk in love, following the Spirit, fulfilling the law; and then you receive an imputed righteousness. Having suffered on the cross, you no longer live the rest of your time in the lusts of men, but you live to the will of God, 1 Pet 4:1-2; which is to be obediently led and guided by the Spirit in thoughts, words, and deeds. From the Word of the Lord within: "The purpose of this website is to teach you how to carry your cross."]
