2 Corinthians 9

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

 1 Now about the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you;

 2 For I know the willingness of your mind, which I boast about to those of Macedonia, that you in Acadia were ready a year ago; and your zeal has stirred up many.

 3 Yet I have sent the brothers, so that our boasting of you should not be in vain in this respect; that, as I said, you may be ready.

 4 For fear that if any of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we, (not to mention yourselves), would be ashamed by this confident boasting.

 5 Therefore I thought it necessary to urge the brothers, that they would go to you before I do, and arrange beforehand your bountiful gift that you had promised, so that it might be ready as a matter of generosity, and not one of grudging obligation.

 6 But this I say, He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.1

 7 Let every man give according to what he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

 8 And God is able to make grace abound toward you; so that you may always be self sufficient in all things, and will have an abundance for every good work;

 9 As it is written, "He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor, his righteousness remains forever."

 10 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for your food, will multiply the seed you have sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;

 11 So you are enriched in everything to increase your generosity, which administered by us causes thanksgiving to God.

 12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also overflows in thanksgiving to God.

 13 Because of the proof of this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal contribution to them, and to all men,

 14 And they yearn for you in their prayers for you, because of the exceeding measure of the grace of God in you.

 15 Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift!

1 Fundamental to being a Christian is to love your neighbor, and to particularly love those who are brothers in the faith. Sharing with others to relieve their lack of necessities for life, is a fundamental work of repentance from you past selfish behavior. To be successful in your spiritual journey, you must learn to cheerfully give to others from your excess. This does not mean tithing. This does not mean giving to ministers who ask for money, which money might be partially used by the minister for his income. This means giving to those in need; either privately, or if in a body of believers, giving to a specific cause collectively. A Warning from the Lord! "You must distribute liberally." See the many scriptures that reference The Necessity of Giving to the Poor.
