|2 Peter 2 |
1 But just as there were false prophets among the people in those times, so there will be false teachers among you, who will subtly and elusively introduce destructive, distorted teachings, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring swift destruction upon themselves. [It is not what one says that makes Jesus their Lord or Master, but their deeds — disregard and disobedience of His teachings and commands denies him as Lord and Master. From the Word of the Lord within: "Remember, every person who sins denies Him as Lord and Master."]
2 And many will follow their destructive ways, and because of them the way of truth will be maligned.
3 And in their covetousness they will make merchandise of you with deceptive words; from long ago their judgment has not been idle, and their damnation has not slumbered.1 [For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, especially of the circumcision whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things they ought not to teach for filthy lucre's sake. Titus 1:10-11.]
4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;
5 And did not spare the old world, but saved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, along with seven others, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
6 And turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemning them with extinction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly lives;
7 And delivered just Lot, who was vexed with the filthy conduct of the wicked;
8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, by seeing and hearing them, was vexed in his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds)
9 Then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust till the day of judgment to be punished.
10 And especially those who indulge the flesh in corrupt lusts and despise authority. They are presumptuous and self-willed, not afraid to speak evil of [heavenly] dignities.
11 When angels, who are greater in power and might, do not dare bring a railing accusation against them before the Lord.2
12 But these, like natural brute beasts, made to be captured and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they do not understand; and will utterly perish in their own corruption;
13 And will receive the reward of unrighteousness, like those who count it a pleasure to carouse in the day time. They are spots and blemishes, reveling in their own deceptions while they feast with you;
14 Having eyes full of adultery [lusts and love of the world], who cannot cease from sin, beguiling unstable souls. They have exercised their heart in covetous practices, they are cursed children, [The false prophets and false teachers did not have the patience to bear the cross and crucify their lusts and affections before preaching and teaching, and so they are filthy dreamers: filthy in mind and spirit and dreaming that they are saved, righteous, and capable of preaching and teaching. Fom the Word of the Lord within: "They are filthy dreamers;" they are filthy because their hearts are defiled with all manner of sins that they still commit with disregard to the Lord's many warnings and requirements, and they are dreaming that they are righteous.]
15 Who have forsaken the right way and have gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness,
16 Who was rebuked for his iniquity by the dumb ass speaking with a man's voice forbidding the madness of the prophet.3
17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a storm, for whom black darkness is reserved.
18 For speaking great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh and much wantonness, those who were barely escaping from those who live in error. [To live in error is to live in sin.]
19 Although these false teachers promise them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption [sin, immorality]; for by whatever a man is overcome, he is enslaved.4 [The blind guides of Christianity teach the liberty of consequence-free sin and that there is no need to bear the cross; but Jesus said, "Unless you repent, all of you will perish," Luke 13:3,5; and Paul said, "The wages of sin is death," Rom 6:23. From the Word of the Lord within: "I am against the shepherds, who have prophesied a false salvation. Consequence-free sin does not exist. There are many that deny the cross and all that is necessary." There is a liberty for a crucified son of God, freed from all sin, walking in the royal law of love and fulfilling the law; but until that occurs, you will be banned from heaven when you die.]
20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the latter is worse for them than the beginning. [This verse alone destroys the myth of "once saved, always saved."]
21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy command delivered to them. [Peter speaks of those who have "known the way of righteousness:" that is they had advanced far enough to be guided by the Lord in everything to do and each and every word to speak; however, they failed to follow the Lord's orders, (they turned from the holy command given to them), and went back into the pleasures and lusts of the world, which overcame them. They failed to endure, and it would be better for them if they had never begun the journey to God.]
22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog returns to his own vomit again;" and the sow that was washed returns to her wallowing in the mire.

1 in their covetousness they will make merchandise of you with deceptive words. What is one easy way to identify a false prophet? They ask for money; contributions, gifts, salaries; in their covetousness, they see you as means of selling their services for your money. What is another way? They use deceptive words. They speak with their carnal mind, which is enmity to God; they do not speak words from the Holy Spirit. Paul said: we speak, not in the words, which man's wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit instructs. 1 Cor 2:13. As Peter said: If any man speaks, let him speak with God's words [oracles], 1 Pet 4:11.
even denying the Lord who bought them.. These men were subtle, so they obviously would have to call themselves Christians; probably even excellent at quoting scriptures. They would not deny that Jesus is the Lord in heaven. They deny him to be their Lord in their sinful conversation and conduct, which is being disobedient to his teachings; and they would deny that it was possible for the anointing of Christ to rule in their hearts as their sovereign Lord in word and deed. From the Word of the Lord within: "Remember, every person who sins denies Him as Lord and Master."
their judgment has not been idle, and their damnation has not slumbered. They are judged and damned by remaining in their fallen nature, living in the flesh, failing to be reunited with God with the light of life from God. Those who do not believe the gospel of freedom from sin, union with God, and entrance into the kingdom of heaven while on earth, remain in their condemned state inherited from the first Adam.
See George Fox's Excellent Writing on The False Teachers in Christianity.
2 Not afraid to speak evil of [heavenly] dignities, when angels, who are greater in power and might, do not dare bring a railing accusation against them before the Lord. Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil as he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring a railing accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you." Jude 1:9. Heavenly dignities include saints past made perfect too. There are those who write very harsh criticisms of Paul and George Fox; but these, like natural brute beasts, made to be captured and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they do not understand; and will utterly perish in their own corruption.
3 Exactly like the ministers today, George Fox said his era's ministers' spiritual progress was less than that of Balaam's ass because the ass spoke the Word of the Lord, but the ministers could not even hear the Lord's voice, much less speak the Word of the Lord; they could only quote the Bible. The ministers of today are ministers of the letter [the outward written word], not ministers of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the spirit gives life. 2 Cor 3:6.
4 speaking great swelling words of vanity, they lure through the lusts of the flesh and much wantonness, those who were barely escaping from those who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the slaves of corruption [sin, immorality]; for by whatever a man is overcome, he is enslaved. The ministers today will freely admit they are sinners (though don't have any idea what sin is); so if your minister sins, he is a slave to sin; says Jesus: I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. John 8:34. And they tell you that you are righteous, with no need to stop sinning yourselves — saying that Jesus has paid for all your sins — so, live free in your sins — Just like Peter described 2000 years ago. And if you believe them, you are worse off being in their sect, than if you had never heard of God.
