Now when it was day, the magistrates sent the officers, saying, "Release those men."

And the keeper of the prison reported this to Paul, saying, "The magistrates have sent to let you go; therefore depart and go in peace."

But Paul said to them, "They have beaten us openly without trial, men who are Romans, and have thrown us into prison; and now they try to send us away secretly? No! But let them come themselves and escort us out."

And the officers reported these words to the magistrates; and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans.

So they came and appealed to them, and escorted them out, and asked them to leave the city.

And they went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia; and after they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them and departed.
