|Acts 2:6-18 |
6 And when this was noise was heard outside, a multitude assembled together who were perplexed because every man heard them speak in his own language.
7 And they were all astonished and marveled, saying to one another, "Behold, are not all these who speak, Galileans?
8 How is it that we hear, every man, in our own tongue in which we were born?
9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretes and Arabians, we hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God."
12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, "What does this mean?"
13 Others mockingly said, "These men are full of new wine."2
14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said to them, "You men of Judea, and all you who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.3
15 For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.
16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel:4
17 'And it shall come to pass in the last days, said God, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all men; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
4 This is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel: it shall come to pass in the last days... The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. The day of the Lord came for Peter and the 120 disciples on Pentecost. The last days began with the resurrection of Jesus. The end of the world and the end times prophecies were fulfilled for the 120 disciples on Pentecost. The end of the world and the end times prophecies are an individual experience for the purified — washed — cleansed believer. From the Word of the Lord within: "We are now in the seventh day of the Lord's Kingdom."
Christianity thinks that the end time is yet to occur, yet Peter in this verse has stated that the last days began at Pentecost; and John also spoke of the last days and last time being then in his letter: "Little children, it is the last time; and as you have heard that antichrist will come, even now many antichrists have come. By this we know that it is the last time." 1 John 2:18. The end of the world and the end times prophecies are an individual experience for the purified — washed — cleansed believer; and all that happens by bearing the cross daily, and dying daily; there is no other way to salvation.
