|Colossians 3:5 |
5 Therefore mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body that are of the earthly life: fornication, impurity, inordinate affections, evil lusts of the flesh, and covetousness, which is idolatry.4
4 Clearly here is the task for all believers who hope for salvation: mortify [put to death] the deeds of the body that are of the earthly life; fornication, impurity, inordinate affections, evil lusts of the flesh, and covetousness, which is idolatry; Because of these things, the wrath of God comes on the children of disobedience; But now put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another. Gentle reader, all these have to go. There is no place for them in Christ. There will never be anything unholy in Christ. But he has shown us the way — the cross; and he has ordered us to deny ourselves daily, pick up our cross, and follow him. There is no other way. Any other way is a pernicious lie, which tramples the blood of Jesus in the dirt. Grace will charge you and then remove your problems that are exposed. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James 4:8. You must go to him. You must wait on him — listen silently, with the humility of a sinner in need of his changing power — grace. Wait, watch, listen, hear, obey... wait, watch, listen, hear, obey..... seek, listen, obey. You must endure to the end, when Christ brings salvation. You must abide in him. And now, little children, abide in him; so that, when he appears, we may have confidence and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 1 John 2:28. So, having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1.
