Ecclesiastes 2:14

Display Chapter and Footnotes

14 The wise man can see where he is going, but the fool walks in darkness; and I also understood that the same event happens to them all. [The wise has his spiritual eye opened to see and walk by the light of God, but the unwise continues to walk in darkness, which is sin.]

Psalms 82:5

5 They don't know, neither will they understand, and they walk on in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are out of course. [To walk in darkness is to walk in sin according to your carnal mind and evil imagination. From the Word of the Lord within: "All sin is darkness. He who seeks not to hear my voice gropes in the dark." Darkness or sin deflects the creation's fulfillment.]

Proverbs 2:12-13

 12 To deliver you from the way of the evil man, from the man who speaks perverse things and lies;

13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; [The upright are pure, walking by the light of God; to walk in darkness is to walk in lust, fulfilling the desires of your flesh and the thoughts of your carnal mind, which is sin. From the Word of the Lord within: "All sin is darkness. The whole world lies in wickedness; the wickedness knows no shame. Darkness mocks the earth; darkness covers the earth."]

Isaiah 50:10

10 Who among you fears the LORD? Who obeys the voice of his servant? Let him who walks in darkness and has no light, trust in the name of the LORD, and stay [his mind] upon his God. [All men start in darkness. Light comes by listening to the Lord and obeying his voice in faith. There is an excellent, detailed writing, Christians should often think on the Name of the LORD, by Steven Crisp available on this site for your reading.]

John 1:5,3:19-20

5 The light shines in the darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it.3 [The light of the Word, Christ, shines in the darkness of men's hearts, but men do not understand that it is Christ, gently and anonymously reasoning with them, attempting to reprove them for their evil ways. Eph 5:13. If men believe what Christ tells them, they believe and love the truth, but if they deny the reasoning, loving their selfish, evil ways, they hate the truth and light, who is Christ. Peter told believers: "we have the more sure prophetic word [the word in your heart]; to which you do well to pay attention, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star [Jesus] rises in your hearts;" 2 Pet 1:19.]

19 And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world [every man], but men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. [All men have a small measure of the light (Christ) that shines in the darkness within them to expose the evil in their hearts as it anonymously pleads with them to turn from their selfish, evil ways; but men, loving their evil ways, ignore the gentle pleadings of God and so remain in darkness, committing sin, walking according to their carnal mind and evil imagination. He who rejects me and does not receive my words, has one for his judge — the words that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. John 12:48]

20 For everyone who does evil deeds [sins] hates the light [so hates Christ, who is the light] and does not come to the light for fear his deeds will be exposed and reproved. [The true light is given to every man who comes into the world so that he might believe. John 1:7,9. The light shines in darkness, but men do not understand that it is Christ anonymously reasoning with them, attempting to show (reprove) men for their evil. John 1:5, Eph 5:13. Loving their selfish life, and hating the Light (who is Christ) that attempts to correct (reprove) them, selfish men flee from the light (Christ) and so remain in condemnation, walking in darkness, continuing to sin, fulfilling the lusts and desires of their flesh.]

John 8:12

12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world [every man]. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life."2 [The Light (Christ) is given to every man who comes into the world, John 1:9, so that through the Light, all men might believe, John 1:7; and by abiding in the Light and obeying the Light, receive salvation to become a child of the light, a son of God. To follow Jesus is to obey what He shows and speaks to you by revelation. If you do not keep or obey the words you hear Christ speak to you, those words will be your judge when you die. John 12:47-48. From the Word of the Lord within: "Obedience leads to restoration of life."]

Matthew 6:23

23 But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! [The Jews had great knowledge of the scriptures, but were spiritually blind because they had no light; they had not been listening to the Word of the Lord in their heart, and so they thought Jesus was evil. Their spiritual ears were stopped and their spiritual eyes were closed; they had not been taught and changed by the Spirit of God and so had no light to see by. Until taught by the Holy Spirit, like all men, the Jews were in darkness. No amount of scripture study can produce light to dispel darkness.]

Ephesians 5:8

Display Chapter and Footnotes

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. [To be in darkness is to still be sinning; to be a child of the light is to have persistently believed in the light and followed the light, who is Christ. To walk in the light is to be guided in what to say and do. All men sit in darkness and walk in darkness until the light arises in their hearts. From the Word of the Lord within: "Walking in the light is to be guided through life by God; walking in darkness is making your own decisions as to what to do and say. Light comes from faith in the voice."]
