Esther 7

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.

And the king said again to Esther on the second day as they were drinking wine, "What is your petition, Queen Esther? It shall be given to you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom, it shall be granted."

Then Esther the queen answered and said, "If I have found favor in your sight, O king and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition and my people at my request.

For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, killed, and annihilated! If we had been sold as bondmen and bondwomen, I would have held my tongue, for our affliction could not justify disturbing the king."

Then the King Ahasuerus said to Esther the queen, "Who is he, and where is he who dared presume in his heart to do that?"

And Esther said, "The adversary and the enemy is this wicked Haman." Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.

And the king arose from the banquet in his wrath and went into the palace garden; but Haman stayed to plead for his life to Esther the queen for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.

Now when the king returned from the palace garden into the place of the banquet, Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was reclining. Then the king exclaimed, "Will he even forcibly assault the queen before me in the palace?" As soon as the word went out of king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.

Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who was serving the king said, "Behold, the gallows seventy five feet high, which Haman erected for Mordecai, who spoke the warning for the king, stands at the house of Haman." Then the king said, "Hang him on it."

So they hung Haman on the gallows that he had erected for Mordecai. Then the king's wrath was pacified.
