Ezekiel 5

Previous Chapter | Next Chapter

[The Lord speaking to Ezekiel] "And you, son of man, take a sharp sword and use it as a barber's razor and shave your head and your beard; then take scales to weigh and divide the hair.

When the days of the siege are fulfilled, you shall burn with fire a third of the hair in the midst of the city, and you shall take a third and strike it with a sword all about the city; and a third you shall scatter in the wind, for I will draw out a sword after them.

You shall also take a small number of them and bind them in your garment.

Then take some of them and cast them into the midst of the fire and burn them in the fire; for from there a fire will come forth into all the house of Israel.

Thus says the Lord GOD, 'This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations and countries that are around her.

And she has changed my judgments into wickedness more than the nations, and my statutes more than the countries that are around her; for they [Israel] refused my judgments and my statutes, they have not walked in them.'

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, 'Because you have multiplied disobedience more than the nations that are around you, and have not walked in my statutes or kept my judgments, nor even done according to the judgments of the nations that are around you;'

Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, 'Behold I, even I, am against you, and will execute judgments in the midst of you in the sight of the nations.

And I will do in you that which I have not done, and which I will never do again, because of all your abominations.

Therefore the fathers shall eat their sons in the midst of you, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments on you, and I will scatter the whole remnant of you into all the winds.

Therefore, as I live,' says the Lord GOD, 'surely, because you have defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I will diminish you and withdraw, and my eye will not spare, nor will I have any pity.

A third of you shall die with the pestilence and be consumed with famine in your midst; and a third shall fall by the sword round about you; and I will scatter a third into all the winds and I will draw out a sword after them.

Thus my anger shall be spent and I will cause my fury toward them to rest and I will be comforted; and when I have spent my fury on them, they shall know that I the LORD have spoken in my zeal.

Moreover I will make you a waste and a reproach among the nations that are around you, in the sight of all who pass by.

So it shall be a reproach and a taunt, an instruction and an astonishment to the nations that are around you, when I execute judgments on you in anger and in fury and in furious rebukes. I the LORD have spoken it.

When I send the evil arrows of famine upon you, which shall be for your destruction, and which I will send to destroy you, then I will increase the famine upon you and will cut off your supply of bread.

So I will send famine and evil beasts upon you, and they will bereave you; and pestilence and blood shall pass through you, and I will bring the sword upon you. I the LORD have spoken it.'"
