Hebrews 7:12,18-19,28

Display Chapter and Footnotes

12 For when the priesthood is changed, there is a necessity to change the law also.

18 For there is truly a cancellation of the previous commandment1 [the commandment for the Levite priests to take tithes from the people according to the law, (Verse 5 above)] because of the weakness and ineffectiveness of it.

19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by which we draw near to God.

28 For the law makes men high priests who have infirmities; but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son, who is perfect forevermore.

Hebrews 8:6

Display Chapter and Footnotes

6 But now he [Christ] has obtained a more excellent ministry, since he [Christ] is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. [Christ is the mediator of the new covenant; he mediates between God and man, directing the condemnation and destruction of sin in men who seek to be freed from sin. "I the LORD have called you in righteousness, and will hold your hand; I will keep you and give you for a covenant to the people, for a light to the Gentiles." Isa 42:6 "It is too light a thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel; I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the ends of the earth." Isa 49:6]
